Pike Industries, Inc. is a leading Highway Contractor and the largest producer of Hot Mix Asphalt and Construction Aggregates in New England. The role is available for candidates based in New Hampshire, Maine, or Vermont.

Position Overview

The Director of Equipment will oversee all facets of the equipment division, leading by example and demonstrating core competencies.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Ensure engagement of the equipment team in all safety best practices and company policies; participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Assist with annual training programs.
  • Ensure all maintenance facilities and personnel comply with MSHA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
  • Maintain clean, safe maintenance facilities.
  • Conduct annual evaluations of direct reports, developing succession plans for key personnel.
  • Oversee and manage all equipment operations within Pike Industries.
  • Create and manage the annual equipment division budget, including projected utilization, hourly rates, and maintenance costs.
  • Maintain cost control for large purchases (repairs, rebuilds, tools, building R&M).
  • Prepare annual rolling stock capital‑expenditure and cost analysis.
  • Manage and monitor equipment utilization and unbilled hours.
  • Dispose of unneeded or under‑utilized equipment.
  • Approve all seasonal and long‑term rentals/leases.
  • Ensure all shops follow AMAT shop accounting practices.
  • Maintain strong communication within all divisions to ensure equipment needs are met.
  • Work on five‑year capital‑expenditure plans to right‑size the fleet and reduce cost.
  • Work closely with equipment manufacturers to adopt new technology.

Safety

  • Oversee and participate in safety committee meetings, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and company initiatives.
  • Ensure employees are engaged in safety and risks are assessed.
  • Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with OSHA, MUTCD, and applicable DOT specifications.
  • Implement and promote the Corporate Safety, Health & Environmental Plan across field operations.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations set by the Department of Transportation, OSHA, MSHA, and other agencies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assist with interviewing and hiring as needed.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work.
  • Develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills, recommending new opportunities when appropriate.
  • Manage employee performance through coaching, feedback, rewards, and discipline.
  • Appraise performance, including annual evaluations.
  • Address complaints and resolve problems promptly.
  • Lead by example.
  • Delegate effectively, schedule, and manage time.

  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.

  • Work in a team environment and assist coworkers or supervisors as needed.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or two to four years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination.

Work Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as reports, employee and safety manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; effectively present information and respond to questions from management and staff.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret a wide variety of technical instructions, both mathematical and diagrammatic.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, percent, and interpret bar graphs; work with Profit & Loss Statements.

Work Environment

The work environment involves heavy equipment and trucks, exposure to wet or humid outside weather, extreme heat, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Traffic patterns and public interaction are included. Noise level is usually moderate.
