Job Description
The James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine (JBECDM) is recruiting a full‑time Program Director for an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program (AEGD) in Charleston, South Carolina. The Program Director provides clinical leadership, mentors residents and staff, and ensures excellence in patient care.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the AEGD curriculum and evaluate program content.
- Establish structured mentorship programs and regular feedback mechanisms for residents.
- Oversee and evaluate resident and faculty performance.
- Maintain residents’ education records.
- Conduct application, interview, recruitment and selection of new residents.
- Ensure program compliance with CODA standards.
- Develop strategic goals, perform regular assessments, and provide ongoing feedback to residents.
- Participate in the Advanced Education Committee of the College of Dental Medicine.
Candidates with knowledge and experience in digital dentistry are preferred.
Didactic Instruction
- Oversee required courses and facilitate essential components of the curriculum in coordination with the MS in Dentistry Program Director.
- Develop and implement weekly seminars aligned with the CODA‑approved curriculum.
- Lead weekly literature reviews and case conferences.
Clinical Instruction
The Program Director directs resident schedules and caseloads, serves as an attending faculty member, and coordinates oversight by other attending faculty. Responsibilities include supporting the Urgent Care Clinic and emergency services to provide residents with practical experience in managing acute dental situations and ensuring a sufficient variety of cases to meet CODA standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- DMD, DDS, or equivalent degree with eligibility for licensure in South Carolina; license must be obtained prior to assuming the position.
- Completion of a General Practice Residency (GPR) program or an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform job functions in an upright or seated position, to walk or move freely, to handle repetitions of hand and wrist motions, to stand or walk for 6–8 hours per shift, to lift and carry up to 15 lbs., to maintain good finger dexterity and vision, and to perform other tasks detailed in the full physical requirements list.
