Job Description
Position Summary
The Director of Merchandising is a strategic leader responsible for driving data‑informed decision‑making across the Merchandising organization. This role oversees merchandising reporting, analytics, customer data, marketing insights, and pricing strategy. The Director ensures teams have the insights, tools, and streamlined processes needed to drive profitable growth.
This position partners closely with Sales Managers, Finance, Marketing, Operations, and key suppliers to elevate merchandising performance and support high‑visibility initiatives such as supplier meetings, financial reviews, and weekly ad planning.
The role plays a critical part in shaping assortment, pricing, promotional strategies, and category performance across the division.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the end‑to‑end merchandising analytics function, delivering data strategy, insights, and recommendations that support sustainable sales and profit growth.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to the merchandising team with clear, actionable insights.
- Establish and uphold best‑in‑class reporting standards, data governance, and analytic processes.
- Partner with the VPMM to oversee merchandising decisions across the division—including Fresh and Center Store—ensuring alignment with division strategies and goals.
- Co‑develop divisional merchandising strategies in collaboration with the VPMM, Merchandising, and Operations.
- Oversee implementation, monitoring, and reporting on merchandising strategies and major strategic projects.
- Engage regularly with the National Team to influence corporate merchandising strategy and leverage shared resources.
- Attend key vendor Top‑to‑Top meetings to support strategic direction and business growth.
Analytics & Reporting
- Oversee all merchandising reporting, dashboards, and category scorecards.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity across all reporting delivered to merchandising and cross‑functional teams.
- Identify data gaps and lead the development of new reporting tools to enhance decision‑making.
Pricing Strategy & Execution
- Partner with the Pricing Manager to develop divisional pricing strategy including margin management, competitive analysis, brand gapping (Own Brand vs. National Brand), and periodic market reviews.
- Collaborate with Sales Managers to optimize promotional retails, event frequency, and profitability.
Process Improvement & Sales Manager Support
- Build standardized processes for sales planning, item setup, vendor negotiations, and category reviews.
- Provide training, tools, and resources enabling Sales Managers and Assistant Sales Managers to utilize available data and work with consistency across the division.
Supplier Meeting & Ad Meeting Support
- Prepare analytical insights and presentation materials for supplier negotiations and joint business planning.
- Support VPMM and Sales Managers with data needs, templates, and financial modeling.
- Oversee analytics and scorekeeping for weekly ad meetings, including:
- Item performance
- Profitability
- Household reach
- Unit movement
- AIV analysis
- ROI calculations (in partnership with EYC and Finance)
Financial Tracking & Forecasting
- Partner with Finance to monitor category sales, margin performance, mix shifts, promotional effectiveness, customer behavior metrics, and KPIs.
- Lead post‑event analysis, category deep dives, and quarterly business reviews.
- Provide forecasting support for merchandising initiatives and long‑range strategic planning.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Previous merchandising office experience strongly preferred.
- Strong merchandising background with broad product knowledge.
- Understanding of category management, format marketing, market research methodologies, and analytical interpretation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven analytical ability, strong organizational skills, and demonstrated leadership experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
- Continuous improvement mindset and ability to drive process enhancement across teams.

Pay Transparency
Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay*, PTO/Vacation pay*, paid holidays*, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on‑going basis.
*For roles in Washington State: Sick payand PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.
