Director of Building Systems Optimization
NYC Health + Hospitals seeks an experienced leader to advance energy efficiency and sustainability across its extensive building portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and execution of large‑scale Building Automation System (BAS) upgrade projects, prioritizing energy conservation, open platforms, and emerging technologies.
- Oversee complex energy efficiency projects, collaborating with consultants, reviewing design packages, and ensuring on‑time, on‑budget delivery.
- Develop and implement HVAC optimization strategies to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in alignment with Local Law 97.
- Support Local Law 87 compliance through retro‑commissioning initiatives, improving HVAC efficiency and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
- Guide Facility Management teams in preventive and predictive maintenance practices for MEP systems, refining O&M schedules to identify operational savings.
- Promote a culture of energy efficiency by encouraging staff participation in training courses and delivering specialized training for operations and executive staff.
- Analyze energy audits and retro‑commissioning studies to inform project selection and recommend innovative controls technologies.
- Provide coaching to engineers and technicians responsible for HVAC operations, supporting troubleshooting of VFDs and BAS trending.
- Partner with Capital and Facilities teams on controls initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational energy efficiency priorities.
- Implement technologies to measure, benchmark, and reduce water consumption across facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Health Care Administration, or a Professional Engineer or Architect license; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Eight years of managerial experience in capital program or budget work in the construction field, including four years of budget administration and health care facilities management.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, Building Automation Systems, Project Management Software, and thermal imaging or air velocity measurement tools.
Preferred Experience
- Eight years of full‑time professional experience, with two years in an executive, managerial, or supervisory capacity.
- Proficiency in continuous and retro‑commissioning of building systems to maximize performance and sustainability outcomes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret, and report performance data.
