A Fire Lieutenant supervises firefighting teams, manages emergency responses, and ensures safety protocols are followed while providing training and public education.
Responsibilities
- Supervision : Oversee the daily operations of a firefighting team, including assigning tasks and evaluating performance. Manage personnel during emergency responses and ensure all safety protocols are adhered to.
- Emergency Response : Respond to fire, medical, and hazardous materials incidents, taking command and control until relieved by a superior officer. Participate in direct firefighting activities and emergency medical care.
- Training and Development : Conduct training sessions for new firefighters and ongoing training for existing staff. Educate team members on firefighting techniques, equipment operation, and emergency medical procedures.
- Public Education : Engage with the community to promote fire safety and prevention. Conduct public demonstrations, station tours, and educational programs.
- Administrative Duties : Maintain records, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Involve in equipment inspections and maintenance.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in the field.
- HS or GED.
- Must meet Emergency Services Certification Program (F&ESCP) standards.
- Fire Officer I.
- Firefighter II.
- Driver Operator.
- Hazardous Materials Operations.
- Technical Rescue.
- EMT – Basic.
- Fire Inspector I (Desired).
- Fire Instructor I (Desired).
