Senior Database Developer

Astor & Sanders Corporation (Astor) is an award-winning IT solutions provider headquartered in McLean, VA. We are seeking a Senior Database Developer with Appian experience. This is a full-time, hybrid position.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal business resources and technical teams/SMEs to understand data sources
• Design, build, maintain, and optimize databases
• Develop database objects including stored procedures, tables, views, and table‑valued functions
• Write complex queries involving common table expressions, window functions, and subqueries for reporting
• Develop, test, and execute the migration of data from an IBM DB2 database to an Oracle database
• Translate business functions into conceptual, logical, and physical data models
• Optimize database tables including the application of triggers, indices, and constraints
• Enforce security standards necessary for the database, potentially including encryption at rest
• Performance tuning and query optimization
• Data migration from legacy databases and perform transformations to fit the new database
• Conduct design reviews with business analysts and content developers to create proof of concept for reports
• Support development teams in developing SQL queries

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
• 5+ years' experience as Database Developer/Programmer
• 5+ years' experience integrating data from disparate sources
• 5+ years' experience in Agile development methodologies
• Strong understanding of MDM policies including cleansing, normalization, and standardization
• Demonstrated experience with Configuration Management tools
• Ability to design and create effective data models
• Proficient in developing stored procedures using PL/SQL and developing efficient views
• Experience with performance tuning
• Experience in Data Mapping and Data Migration
• Experience with databases such as Oracle and AWS RDS
• Understanding of data security and data access controls
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work under high pressure in a complex multi‑threaded environment
• Demonstrated capability to learn, rapidly utilizing problem‑solving skills
• Desire to learn and document new tools
• Prior experience architecting databases and warehouses for Appian BPMS solutions is a plus
