Executive Director of Academic Advising and Learning Support

Xavier University is seeking a dedicated and mission‑driven Executive Director of Academic Advising and Support. The role leads the transformation and alignment of advising strategy, policy, and operations to support student success. This position is central to Xavier’s strategic priority of improving retention, progression, and timely degree completion for undergraduate students and collaborates across campus to advance data‑informed student success initiatives aligned with our mission of educating the whole person.

The Executive Director reports to the Associate Provost for Academic Engagement. The position oversees professional academic advisors, student‑athlete academic advisors, and academic support functions, including supplemental instruction, tutoring, and skills coaching.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide vision for and execute strategy for holistic, developmental academic advising and support aligned with the university’s mission. This includes building a new culture of professional advising for all first‑year undergraduate students.
  • Ensure consistent, high‑quality advising and support across undergraduate student populations, including but not limited to transfer students, adult learners, and student‑athletes.
  • Lead cross‑divisional collaboration among Academic Affairs, Strategic Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Athletics, and other campus partners to support integrated student success efforts.
  • Establish metrics and assessment strategies to evaluate advising effectiveness, academic support utilization, and student success initiatives, and communicate advising outcomes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Recommend and advance policy, structural, and resource changes necessary to strengthen advising and support operations.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student development, counseling, or a related field required; doctoral degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership experience in academic advising or student success within a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of advising best practices, student development theory, and equity‑centered approaches to student success.
  • Proven success leading organizational change and fostering cross‑campus collaboration.
  • Demonstrated impact in retention‑focused initiatives and data‑informed decision‑making.
