Job Title: Director of Human Resources

Location (city, state): Winchester, VA - Fully on-site

Assignment Type: Direct Hire

Pay: $85,000 - $90,000 annually

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week, Standard business hours

Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

Job Description:

The Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership for all aspects of the HR function, partnering with executive leadership to build a high-performing, inclusive, and compliant organization. This role balances big-picture people strategy with hands-on execution across talent, culture, and operations

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with organizational goals and business priorities
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and culture
  • Lead change management initiatives to support growth and transformation

Talent Management

  • Oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, and succession planning
  • Design and implement employee development, leadership training, and career progression programs
  • Ensure competitive compensation, benefits, and rewards strategies

Employee Relations & Culture

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-engagement workplace culture
  • Guide and resolve complex employee relations matters with professionalism and discretion
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across the organization

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws, regulations, and policies
  • Oversee HR policies, procedures, and systems (HRIS, payroll coordination, benefits administration)
  • Manage risk related to employee relations, labor law, and workplace practices

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the HR team, setting clear goals and performance expectations
  • Manage the HR budget and vendor relationships effectively

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Advanced degree and/or SHRM, PHR, or SPHR certification strongly preferredli>
  • Significant progressive experience in HR leadership roles
  • Strong working knowledge of multi-state employment laws and HR best practices
  • Experience with HRIS platforms, budgeting, and complex HR operations
  • Advanced Excel skills (including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs)
  • Excellent judgment, communication skills, and ability to handle sensitive matters discreetly
