The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The administration is leading the fight to make the city more affordable, reduce inequality, improve public safety, and strengthen New York City’s economy.
Team You’ll Work With **NOTE: This role is located in Washington, DC.**
The Office of Federal Affairs coordinates the City’s interaction with the federal administration and Congress, keeping the Mayor and City agencies informed about pending or important issues affecting the City. It advocates on behalf of the City and serves as the DC liaison between the City and other cities seeking to work together on federal issues.
Responsibilities
Serve as a liaison between the New York City Congressional Delegation, the White House, federal agencies, and relevant City agencies to oversee projects and develop strategic outreach to elected officials in furtherance of mayoral goals.
Coordinate with agencies, boards, commissions, organizations, and institutions relevant to the administration’s goals and policy initiatives, meet project goals and timelines, and review agency and interagency work products.
Provide administrative support and coordination, including preparation of correspondence and briefing memoranda, background research, and information for the Director of City Legislative Affairs.
Research local, state, and federal laws, court decisions, and other legal documents, and work with the NYC Law Department to determine legal implications for policy needs.

You have exceptional written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
You have experience working with agencies in the portfolio (strong plus).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required; Graduate Degree (MPA/MS) preferred.
8+ years of experience.
Preferred Skills
Detailed knowledge of the federal legislative process and elected officials.
Exceptional organizational, research, and analytic skills.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and presentation.
Ability to set and meet pressured deadlines, manage multiple, competing priorities, and assign staff appropriately.
Willingness to travel to Washington, DC during crucial federal legislative sessions.
Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.
Self‑motivated and able to motivate others.
Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
