Job Title: Mechanical Assembler
Pay Range: $25/HR to $28/HR
Job Description Join a specialized production team that builds highly engineered, innovative maintenance‑of‑way equipment for rail‑related markets. You will use mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic assembly techniques, along with overhead cranes and jibs, to assemble complex machinery according to blueprints and schematics. This project‑based role is expected to run through mid‑December, ideal for someone with strong hands‑on mechanical skills and experience in diesel or mechanical assembly.
Responsibilities
Assemble mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components for specialized rail‑related equipment according to blueprints, schematics, and work instructions.
Use hand tools and power tools to fit, fasten, and secure parts and assemblies to precise specifications.
Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and schematics to determine assembly sequence and requirements.
Install, route, and secure hydraulic and pneumatic lines, fittings, and related components.
Perform basic electrical and wiring tasks as needed to support equipment assembly.
Operate overhead cranes and jibs safely to lift, move, and position heavy parts and assemblies.
Inspect completed assemblies for accuracy, quality, and proper operation, and make adjustments as necessary.
Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during the assembly process using diesel repair and general mechanical skills.
Maintain and organize personal tools and work area to support efficient, safe, and high‑quality production.
Collaborate with team members and follow established procedures to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
Essential Skills
At least 2 years of experience as a diesel mechanic or in mechanical assembly.
Minimum of 1 year of experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Proficiency with mechanical assembly techniques using hand tools and power tools.
Ability to work with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical components in an industrial environment.
Basic understanding of electrical work and wiring related to equipment assembly.
Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and jibs for lifting and positioning components.
Capability to read and follow schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
Ownership of a basic personal tool set suitable for mechanical assembly work.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in diesel repair or maintenance of heavy equipment.
Familiarity with rail‑related or industrial machinery assembly.
Comfort working with both SAE tools and, when needed, metric tools.
Ability to work overtime, including occasional Saturdays, to support project timelines.
Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a production team.
