The Assistant Director, Oncology Data Management & Accreditations, reports to the Director of Clinical Business Development & Planning. This position provides strategic and operational leadership for the OHSU Knight Cancer Registry, operations, and oncology accreditation programs across the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute and its partner sites. Function / Duties of Position
This role is accountable for ensuring Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Knight Cancer Institute and contracted facilities maintain oncology accreditations. Primary oversight includes, but is not limited to, the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS/CoC); ensures that OHSU maintains accreditation by the American College of Surgeons National Accreditation for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) and identifies and advances new accreditation opportunities aligned with organizational strategy and business need. In close partnership with faculty and Cancer Business Unit executive leadership, this role leverages cancer registry expertise and analysis to support strategic planning, operational decision making, research initiatives, and quality improvement. Responsibilities include guiding complex data requests, statistical analyses and performance reporting to inform program growth and excellence. This role actively participates in enterprise workgroups and committees, leads new accreditation efforts and serves as subject matter expert on oncology registry data and reporting. The position has direct oversight of the Cancer Data Management Manager and the Cancer Data Analyst and is responsible for ensuring tumor registry operations meet or exceed all state, federal on Cancer Requirements. Help to achieve patient outcomes standards by contributing to cancer program goals, patient care improvement measures, accountability measures, assessment of evaluation and treatment planning, studies of quality and quality improvements. Collaborate effectively across all Cancer Programs to develop and/or enhance programs and service delivery in a coordinated way to best serve patients and the community. Complete Commission on Cancer (CoC) Survey PRQ, act as point of contact for surveyor, prepare agenda for survey, lead chart reviews, and attend CoC Survey. Complete National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) Survey PRQ, act as point of contact for surveyor, prepare agenda for survey, lead chart reviews, and attend NAPRC Survey. Strategic Planning and Data Analytics
Actively participate in strategic planning processes and initiatives by collecting, analyzing, summarizing, producing and presenting data on OHSU and partner site tumor registry information. Assess market and determine areas of opportunity/threat within the program. Use registry data to assess referral patterns and types/locations of treatment, and provide recommendations on market share opportunities. Work with Cancer Collaborative partners to analyze cancer registry data and develop recommendations addressing leakage opportunities. Utilize registry data to identify trends and analyze cancer data including cancer types, disparities, geography, and program outcomes. Prepare reports of cancer case migration; interpret migration data and help leadership define metrics to guide decisions. Propose and create data solutions (dashboards, reports, BI tools) for measuring processes and outcomes. Assist in evaluating Cancer Programs and other health initiatives with data analysis planning and collaboration. Manage and complete requests from physicians for statistical analyses and clinical quality outcomes data for quality improvement, clinical pathways, research, and publications. Cancer Data Management
Establish and maintain the operation of the Cancer Data Management Department and registry for OHSU and partner sites; coordinate data retrieval and dissemination per ethics and regulatory standards to OSCaR and NCDB. Serve as subject matter expert on cancer data management and tumor registry requirements for smaller health systems; oversee contracts and cost negotiations for such services. Prepare and maintain policies related to CoC, NAPRC, and related standards; attend training to stay current on standards. Contribute to department goals at monthly meetings and support staff development and training. Assist with establishing OSCaR at OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, including budgeting, staffing plans and training, and policy development. Personnel Management
Oversee hiring, onboarding and training for staff in the cancer data management program. Lead development of training curricula and staff development initiatives. Oversee retraining as needed and support professional development for staff. Maintain guidelines and work instructions for the registry team and team meetings. Financial Management
Ensure the cancer data manager oversees the unit budget, including reimbursements from partner sites for registry services. Provide contract oversight for contracted hospitals. Prepare financial reports for review by the VP, Oncology Services. Manage the cancer data management team budget and annual expenditures; participate in department budget meetings. Required Qualifications
Master\'s degree Bachelor\'s degree plus two additional years of experience may serve in place of Master\'s degree Minimum of 8 years professional experience in the healthcare industry Minimum 5 years directly overseeing/leading CoC accreditation activities and cancer registry/oncology data management teams Ability to form relationships with physicians, administrators, and other allied health professionals; tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships Ability to lead and manage complex, multi-institutional projects to completion Ability to prioritize multiple tasks Excellent communication, documentation, organization, and planning skills (written and verbal) Ability to work independently and as part of a team Knowledge of cancer registry management practices and tumor nomenclature; strong medical background in cancer disease process Ability to handle large volumes of detailed work with accuracy Knowledge of regulatory standards including NPCR, OSCaR, CoC, and NAPRC Knowledge of staffing plans and budget preparation Knowledge of computerized database analysis and BI/databases including Oncolog Knowledge of health care outcomes and quality improvement analysis Knowledge and expertise in data analytics including data management and data analysis Current CTR (Certified Tumor Registrar) or CTR-Eligible Additional Details
