Overview
Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley (HFHVV) is seeking a skilled construction professional to serve as Assistant Superintendent in support of its mission to partner with local families to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. Responsibilities
Completion of detailed and technical construction tasks, including complicated framing, conducting framing layouts, floor systems, truss assemblies, stair installation, roof sheathing, cabinet and countertop installation, doors, and trim carpentry. Providing oversight and guidance to Crew Leaders as they manage and work alongside volunteers, including preparing for volunteer build days, volunteer orientation and training, task assignment and delegation of work, supervision of volunteers, development of team leader and future homeowner skills, and facilitating a positive, fun, and safe volunteer experience. Making rounds and addressing elevated questions. Monitoring work to ensure safe quality construction and productivity towards daily objectives. Providing feedback and instruction as needed. Verifying construction tasks for accuracy as compared to plans. Supervision and oversight of subcontractors. Oversight of safety programs and site maintenance. Coordinating all required inspections with the Construction Director and Project Manager. Stepping into a direct volunteer leadership role when hosting large volunteer groups and in situations when needed to lead a specific task. Maintaining tools & equipment inventory, and implementing procedures for care and maintenance. Fostering an inclusive, engaging, and positive culture at the job site. Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of all phases of residential construction and familiarity with green building practices. 5+ years in a supervisor role in residential new construction and hands-on experience in residential framing. Conversational Spanish speaking ability preferred. Ability to read and interpret construction documents such as architectural and engineering drawings, site plans, and technical specifications. Demonstrated coaching and/or leadership experience. Strong interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work within a team environment. Experience with MS Office applications, MS Project and Bluebeam is preferred. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Physical Requirements
The Assistant Superintendent must be able to meet the heavy physical demands of working on a construction site, including walking on uneven surfaces, heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, and use of heavy machinery and power tools. Working Conditions
The Assistant Superintendent understands that the working conditions of the job site include natural hazards (weather conditions) as well as hazards typical for construction sites, the operation of vehicles, tools or equipment and intense physical labor. Schedule
The Construction schedule is typically Tuesday through Saturday but may fluctuate on occasion when special volunteer groups are on site or for other unique circumstances. Compensation & Benefits
The compensation range for this position is currently $30.21-$37.76 per hour. Initial compensation is determined based on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience. Benefits offered include health insurance, life insurance, retirement plan with 6% employer match, up to 6 weeks of vacation, holiday, and sick time, paid medical leave and more.
