Job Summary
The Director of Education serves as a key pedagogical and operational leader within the school, reporting to the Head of School. Grounded in Montessori philosophy, this role provides thoughtful supervision and support of teaching staff, ensuring that classrooms reflect authentic Montessori practice and uphold a consistent, child-centered approach.
The Director of Education oversees the daily flow of classroom operations, including maintaining environments that are safe, orderly, and conducive to independence and exploration, as well as coordinating the school-wide schedule, including assigning and/or providing substitute coverage, in alignment with Montessori principles.
A central responsibility of this role is the development and support of faculty. This includes leading all aspects of professional growth through classroom observation, reflective feedback, coaching, and ongoing training, with an emphasis on deepening Montessori practice. The position partners closely with lead teachers to support program fidelity, continuity across levels, and the holistic development of each child.
This position also oversees student progress; guiding authentic Montessori observation and assessment by teachers and coordinating intervention and accommodation when needed. This includes conducting assessments and managing data, facilitating collaborative conversations around student growth, overseeing intervention processes, and supporting referrals and family meetings with care and clarity.
In alignment with Montessori’s focus on the whole child, this role provides leadership in social-emotional development and behavior, supporting teachers in fostering respectful, normalized classroom communities. The Director of Education oversees student discipline in a manner consistent with Montessori principles and ensures clear, compassionate communication with both staff and families.
The Director of Education models professionalism, engagement, and a strong work ethic, contributing actively to all aspects of school life. This role participates fully in school events and supports the school’s culture of giving through meaningful involvement in fundraising efforts. With a deep commitment to the school’s mission, the Director of Education serves as a thoughtful advocate for its vision and values, helping to nurture a connected, purpose-driven community.
Position offers a competitive salary and full benefits package including Health Plan, Life Insurance, and 401k match, as well as generous annual professional development allowance for approved training/development. For candidates who enroll children at our school, tuition remission is offered based on years of service starting at 50%.
