Outside Sales Representative
Actalent, Palo Alto, CA, United States
Job Title
Outside Sales Representative – Water Restoration & Excavation (Field Supervisor Track) Responsibilities
Maintain ongoing communication with existing and new clients, proactively reaching out to understand their plumbing or water-related concerns and recommend appropriate solutions. Serve as a knowledgeable, customer-facing point of contact who explains plumbing, sewer, and water damage solutions in clear, easy-to-understand terms. Use company pricing tools and insurance parameters to prepare accurate, competitive estimates for repairs or replacements. Guide customers through their options, helping them choose the best solution for their situation while securing the sale. Utilize prospecting and follow-up tools to engage residential and commercial leads experiencing water damage or plumbing issues. Manage a steady volume of inbound calls and open leads, ensuring timely follow-up and consistent pipeline activity. For excavation-focused work, identify opportunities to repair or replace sewer lines for residential and commercial properties. Perform video inspections of sewer systems to evaluate issues such as root intrusion, structural damage, and other conditions that may require excavation or line replacement. Clearly present excavation findings and recommendations to customers, including the scope of work and associated costs. For water restoration-focused work, identify and present solutions to address water-related property damage in homes and businesses. Conduct on-site evaluations to measure moisture levels, determine the extent of damage, and assess whether demolition, drying, or other restoration steps are necessary. Translate technical findings from inspections and evaluations into clear, actionable proposals for customers. Consistently meet or exceed weekly and annual sales targets by effectively closing opportunities and maximizing each customer interaction. Represent the company professionally in the field, including driving a territory, arriving on time to appointments, and maintaining a positive, service-oriented attitude. Demonstrate strong self-management in a commission-oriented environment, planning your day, managing your territory, and following through on all leads and appointments. Essential Skills
At least 1 year of customer-facing experience in sales or service sales (e.g., pest control, solar, mobile/cellular, cable, or home improvement sales). Demonstrated ability to stay at each employer for at least 1 year, showing strong tenure and commitment rather than frequent job changes. Proven ability to sell and present yourself confidently, building trust and rapport quickly with customers. Strong outside sales mindset, with a go-getter attitude and comfort working in the field and driving a territory. Self-motivated and commission-oriented, with the drive to succeed in a performance-based compensation structure. Customer service orientation, with the ability to listen carefully, ask questions, and recommend solutions that address customer needs. Comfort working with both residential and commercial customers on-site, often in situations involving property damage or urgent repairs. Ability to learn and use company pricing tools and guidelines to prepare accurate, competitive estimates. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Minimum age of 18 and ability to pass a background check. Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in water restoration or related fields is highly beneficial and can shorten the training curve. Familiarity with sewer line systems, plumbing, or excavation work is a plus. Ability to perform or learn to perform video inspections of sewer systems and explain findings to customers. Comfort working with moisture measurement tools and other field equipment used in water restoration. No formal educational requirements, making this a strong opportunity for driven individuals early in their careers. Eager, upbeat, and positive attitude, with a strong desire to learn and grow in a specialized service sales environment. Willingness to obtain water restoration certifications and Home Improvement Salesperson (HIS) certification; the company covers the cost of these certifications. Competitive mindset and interest in participating in regional sales competitions and performance-based incentives. Work Environment
This is a field-based outside sales role serving both residential and commercial clients in the broader Bay Area, with an office hub in the Menlo Park/Palo Alto region. The territory includes areas such as Santa Cruz, San Mateo, and Santa Clara, with additional recruiting from communities south of Hayward. Internally, these positions align with Field Supervisor roles on the Water Restoration and Excavation teams. You will spend most of your time on the road and on customer job sites, conducting inspections, evaluations, and sales consultations rather than working at a desk. Water Restoration team members typically handle an average of 5–6 calls per day, while Excavation team members average 4–5 calls per day, with excavation inspections generally taking longer due to their complexity. Excavation Field Supervisors receive a company vehicle for work-related travel. Water Restoration team members use their own vehicle and receive weekly mileage reimbursement at a set per-mile rate. The company provides structured training, typically around four weeks, with a guaranteed weekly training pay. The role offers uncapped commission with tiered percentage levels based on weekly sales volume, and commissions are paid when jobs are completed. High performers can qualify for additional incentives, including a travel voucher for reaching a specified annual sales level and participation in regional sales competitions with cash prizes. The environment is fast-paced and opportunity-rich, with a high volume of incoming calls and open leads to follow up on, rewarding individuals who are self-directed, professional in appearance and demeanor, and motivated by performance-based earnings.
