Description:
The Facilities and Support Services Director shall be responsible for the development and implementation of a District program of maintenance and construction services. The Director shall ensure the physical school plant is in excellent operation in order that full educational use of it may be made at all times. The Director supervises transportation coordinator, maintenance, construction within the District and consults with head custodians and principals.
Qualifications
Minimum of M.A. degree in Education or a related field
Valid Arizona Administrator’s Certificate
Five (5) years’ experience as a school district administrator or in general building maintenance, planning, and construction services
Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze situations and make informed decisions
Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team, including using tact and professionalism in all situations
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board may deem appropriate and acceptable
Knowledge of
Basic facilities systems (HVAC, roofing, playground equipment, landscaping, weatherization, etc.)
Loss prevention
Security systems
Student transportation systems
Insurance & liability policies
Policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the District and the schools
Ability to
Perform functions from written and oral instructions
Utilize problem-solving techniques
Prioritize work, take initiative, adhere to time restraints and attend to multiple tasks
Maintain confidentiality of staff, student and family record
Writing and managing grants
Participate in staff selection, assignment, orientation and evaluation
Provide in-service to staff
Plan, organize and motivate staff
Work effectively with a diverse community
Communicate ideas and programs to individuals, staff, parents, community, etc.
Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board of the Superintendent may deem appropriate
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Cooperates with the Assistant Superintendent in the coordination of new construction for the District
Plans and supervises major alteration projects
Recommends priorities on repair projects
Maintains compliance with all local, state and federal mandatory inspections, i.e. smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, fire panel, fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, pull stations, state fire inspections, kitchen Ansul systems, backflow, playground, structural, environmental quality, health department, and CO2
Estimates costs of repair projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead
Prepares or obtains specifications needed for outside contracts, alterations, and maintenance projects
Examines school buildings quarterly for needed repairs and maintenance
Assigns, supervises and inspects maintenance work
Develops a system for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency
Prepares reports on work done, materials used, and labor expended
Sees that materials are available when needed by coordinating purchasing of supplies and maintenance equipment in accordance with mandated procurement codes
Establishes preventive maintenance programs for school plants
Makes periodic reports to the Assistant Superintendent on progress of construction, alteration projects, and maintenance programs
Evaluates school maintenance programs and makes recommendations for efficiency and cost improvements
Calls and conducts meetings of the head custodians, when deemed necessary, for the purposes of training
Establishes and supervises summer maintenance and cleaning programs and schedules
Assumes the responsibilities as the Districts’ Emergency Incident Commander
Provides all training to District Administration regarding evacuation and relocation emergency procedures
Establishes and maintains a District safety committee
Establishes District standards for safety compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
Makes periodic safety and fire inspections of all District properties and initiates corrective action for all potential or realized hazards
Provides support to Transportation Department regarding emergencies, accidents and personnel shortage
Completes and submits mandatory reporting claims to the TRUST regarding vehicles, buildings & outdoor facilities
Other duties as assigned
Length of Employment 12 month
Reports to Assistant Superintendent of Business Services
Evaluation Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy GDO
