This role is located in New York.The Director, Global Payroll Tax is a strategic and technical leader responsible for the governance, design, and execution of payroll tax operations across all jurisdictions in which the company operates. This role owns global payroll tax compliance, risk management, and transformation strategy, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll tax outcomes while enabling scalable growth, automation, and regulatory readiness.This leader partners closely with Finance, Corporate Tax, Payroll Accounting, Legal, HR, Payroll Operations, and Technology to translate complex regulatory requirements into sustainable operating models, controls, and systems. The role serves as the enterprise authority on payroll tax matters, advising executive leadership on tax exposure, regulatory change, and strategic workforce decisions.In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:* Define and execute the global payroll tax strategy, balancing compliance, risk mitigation, financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and cost optimization.* Establish and maintain a global payroll tax governance control framework, including policies, standards, reconciliation requirements, and escalation models.* Lead global payroll tax compliance, risk management, audit readiness, and transformation initiatives across all jurisdictions.* Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Corporate Tax, Payroll Accounting, Legal, HR, Payroll Operations, and Technology to translate complex regulatory requirements into sustainable operating models, controls, and systems.To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:* 12–15+ years of progressive payroll tax experience in a large, complex, multinational organization and/or Big 4/global advisory environment.* Demonstrated leadership of global payroll tax programs and proven experience resolving complex payroll tax accounting issues, including historical imbalances and audit findings.* Deep knowledge of global payroll tax regulations, employment tax frameworks, payroll and finance systems, and equity compensation taxation.* Strong executive-level communication, stakeholder management, and strategic decision-making skills in a global, matrixed environment.* Experience partnering closely with CFO, Controller, Head of Tax, and Internal Audit.* Audit, controls, and SOX experience strongly preferred.* CPA strongly preferred; JD, LLM (Tax), or equivalent also valued.* Experience supporting M&A, global expansion, or large-scale payroll and finance transformations.At BNY, our culture speaks for itself, check out the latest BNY news at:BNY Newsroom

The base salary for this position is expected to be between $130,000 and $240,000 per year at the commencement of employment.
