Job Description/Summary WNEM, a Gray Local Media I station, is recruiting for a Producer. This person creates, coordinates, and writes content on a variety of platforms, including broadcast, web, digital, and social media. The Producer displays creativity, aggressiveness, attention to detail, resourcefulness, and team spirit in the pursuit of excellent content for newscasts, online, and social platforms. The Producer assists with the daily flow of news to the newsroom for appropriate coverage both on‑air and on the station’s digital platforms. This person gathers meaningful news information from various sources, generates story ideas, and checks out credible news tips. Successful candidates will have solid news judgment, a sound grasp of broadcast and online journalism, and a sense of urgency for breaking news.

Responsibilities

Write scripts for a variety of platforms, including broadcast, web, and social media, contribute story ideas, participate in editorial meetings, and collaborate with the news team.

Preview news material before airing and/or posting to the web.

Prepare possible interview segments.

Coordinate breaking news and execute newscast in the control room.

Contribute content to web and multimedia efforts.

Monitor news sources and social media to ensure news is being appropriately covered.

Discern news tips, gather information, and distribute that information to the newsroom, set up interviews, and answer phones.

Conceptualize innovative graphic and pre‑production elements.

Monitor and work to constantly improve the look and execution of newscasts.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

At least two years of working in broadcast media and Social Media.

Experience using a content management system (CMS) is a plus.

Strong editorial skills and working knowledge of AP and Broadcast Style are also preferred.
