JOB DESCRIPTION
Local News Senior Producer
WESH 2/CW18, the Hearst‑owned NBC affiliate in the Orlando market has an opening for an experienced, take‑charge senior producer who knows how to create memorable newscasts. This position will hopefully be a stepping‑stone into an executive producer role. The right candidate will have a track record of being creative and aggressive with breaking news and will work well under deadlines, making decisions and communicating the plan clearly. We are looking for an experienced producer to lead our weekend evening newscast production and oversee the producer responsible for the other weekend newscasts. We expect excellent news judgment, flexibility, and a positive, can‑do attitude. Applicants must have a proven track record of aggressive breaking news coverage and strong story selection, be an excellent writer who takes pride in clean scripts with compelling and concise storytelling, and be able to thrive in a fast‑paced, changing news environment. Candidates must work fast under deadlines, remain calm under pressure, and understand the need for team building and strong communication and relationships with on‑air staff.
Responsibilities
Selecting, researching, and writing content for live newscasts to make the newscast an "experience" for viewers
Communicating, coordinating, and executing creative vision with a team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff on the weekends and when filling in during the week
Working with and guiding reporters in story production
Self‑starter who has a passion for news, including pitching local enterprise stories as well as a strong understanding of national/international news
Must have excellent showcasing and storytelling skills and be an effective tease writer who always looks for the best sound and video
Strong booth skills, maintaining a calm and commanding presence, and experience in wall‑to‑wall coverage for breaking news and weather
Aggressive with breaking news coverage
Team player and good newsroom citizen who actively participates in the daily news gathering process
Write and post stories daily to our digital and social media platforms
Use social media platforms to research and write stories for television and digital platforms
In‑person attendance is required
Requirements
3–5 years producing experience
Creative presentation style
Professional experience producing a television newscast
Experience with ENPS is a plus
Excellent writing, spelling, grammar, and copy‑editing skills
Ability to multi‑task and coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously
Ability to summarize information into easy‑to‑understand components
Creative presentation style, and ability to showcase elements/stories in newscast
Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
Must be available to work holidays, and all other shifts including overnights and nights, and be flexible and available during breaking news
Military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) with associated producing experience will be considered
Hearst Television supports military veterans; related military training and experience will be considered
