Purpose

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Technology seeks a senior Artificial Intelligence leader to accelerate safe, scalable adoption of AI—including generative and agentic AI—across North America (NA) commercial teams. The role will shape the AI enablement strategy and operating model, translate priority business opportunities into an outcome-driven portfolio, and partner across Product, Data, AI Engineering, and Data Science, Security, Privacy, Legal/Compliance, and business leaders to move solutions from concept to production and sustained value. The role will tackle pressing business challenges across the commercial pharmaceutical value chain, including sales, marketing, medical, patient engagement, and financial operations. The Director will lead a high-performing team of AI‑first technologists who combine deep technical fluency with pragmatic delivery to improve customer, patient, and commercial workflow engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the NA Commercial AI Enablement strategy and operating model, including intake, prioritization, delivery governance, and value realization for an enterprise portfolio of AI products and capabilities.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify high‑impact opportunities across sales, marketing, omnichannel execution, customer engagement, patient support, and core commercial operations; translate them into clear problem statements, success metrics, and roadmaps.
  • Lead delivery of AI solutions across the buy/borrow/build continuum, selecting fit‑for‑purpose approaches (platform capabilities, vendor solutions, and custom builds) and ensuring reliable handoffs from pilot to scale and run‑state.
  • Champion responsible AI by embedding governance, security, privacy, and compliance‑by‑design into AI patterns and workflows, including human‑in‑the‑loop practices, documentation, model monitoring, and auditability appropriate for regulated environments.
  • Build and lead a team of AI‑first leaders and practitioners (e.g., applied scientists, AI solution engineers, product/solution leads), providing coaching, technical mentorship, and talent development to drive retention and career growth.
  • Establish scalable delivery patterns for GenAI and agentic systems (e.g., retrieval‑augmented generation, evaluation and testing, prompt and workflow engineering, LLMOps/MLOps), and influence platform capabilities to accelerate time‑to‑value.
  • Drive change enablement and adoption by partnering with business teams on communications, training, and ways‑of‑working so AI solutions are trusted, used, and measurably improve outcomes.
  • Forge strong collaborations across J&J to share reusable assets, scale successful solutions, and stay current on emerging techniques, tools, and industry trends to inform strategy and investment decisions.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant industry experience delivering AI/analytics solutions, including translating business problems into scaled products with measurable impact; life sciences/healthcare experience required.
  • People leadership: 5+ years of experience building and leading high‑performing teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and developing technical leaders.
  • AI/ML technical fluency: Strong understanding of modern ML techniques and large language models, and ability to guide architecture and delivery decisions across data, modeling, software engineering, and cloud platforms.
  • Generative AI and agentic systems: Demonstrated experience taking GenAI solutions to production, including evaluation/testing, guardrails, retrieval‑augmented generation, prompt/workflow engineering, and LLMOps/MLOps practices (monitoring, drift, reliability, and incident response).
  • Product and portfolio leadership: Proven ability to prioritize a portfolio, manage investment decisions across the product lifecycle, and drive adoption and value realization through clear OKRs/KPIs and stakeholder alignment.
  • Responsible AI and compliance: Familiarity with data standards, privacy regulations, and governance expectations in regulated environments; ability to partner effectively with Security, Privacy, Legal, and Compliance to embed controls by design.
  • Commercial domain expertise (preferred): Experience supporting pharmaceutical sales & marketing, omnichannel/customer engagement, and/or commercial operations, including working with commercially relevant data sets.
