
Director of Engineering

Job Summary
The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading both the Design and Manufacturing Engineering functions in the development, standardization, and continuous improvement of Curry Supply's product lines.
This role ensures alignment between product design, Bills of Materials (BOMs), build standards, and shop floor execution to support efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective manufacturing. The Director will provide strategic leadership in engineering operations, process standardization, and ERP (QAD) integration.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
* Lead both Design and Manufacturing Engineering teams to meet company goals related to design accuracy, cost, manufacturability, and throughput * Establish and drive engineering standards across product design, BOM structure, and build processes * Develop team capability through performance management, resource planning, and training * Foster a continuous improvement culture using Lean principles and metrics-driven management
Product Design & Engineering Output
* Oversee the development of complete and accurate drawing packages and Bills of Materials (BOMs) * Ensure designs meet customer requirements, regulatory standards (e.g., USDOT), and internal quality expectations * Drive design for manufacturability (DFM) to reduce complexity, cost, and build time * Maintain ownership of engineering change management and revision control processes
Manufacturing Engineering & Shop Flow
* Establish and maintain build standards, routings, and standard work across all product lines * Partner with Operations to improve shop flow, staging, and production efficiency * Ensure alignment between engineering outputs and actual floor execution, minimizing rework and disruption * Lead efforts to define and maintain standard labor hours and process expectations
Process Standardization & ERP Integration
* Own the standardization of engineering documentation, workflows, BOM structure, and data integrity in QAD * Ensure engineering processes fully support production scheduling, material planning, and job tracking * Lead engineering's role in QAD implementation, optimization, and continuous improvement
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Work closely with Sales, Production, Supply Chain, and Quality to align priorities and resolve issues * Support production readiness for new and existing products * Act as the escalation point for engineering-related production challenges
Administrative Oversight
* Recruit, onboard, and develop engineering talent * Manage departmental budgets, capital expenditures, and resource allocation * Ensure compliance with safety, company policies, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; PE preferred * 7+ years of engineering experience, with 3+ years in leadership * Strong background in manufacturing and fabrication environments * Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and engineering change management systems * Experience with ERP systems (QAD preferred) * Hands-on knowledge of welding, fabrication, and assembly processes
