Patient Account Specialist

Retina Consultants of Texas (RCTX) is seeking a Patient Account Specialist to join our innovative team with the mission of Fighting Blindness For The World To See. This position will be responsible for providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced clinic environment at our Katy Clinic. Candidates must be able to travel to various clinics to meet the needs of the patients and providers, and support the clinic hours of Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30am-6:30pm. Schedules are provided weekly and are based on the provider's clinic, patient and surgery schedules. Responsibilities

The Patient Account Specialist serves as a key liaison between patients, clinical teams, and revenue cycle operations, providing clear and thoughtful guidance on insurance coverage, billing practices, and available payment options. This role is responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and supporting the timely resolution of outstanding balances. Conduct outbound calls to patients on outstanding balances Review, analyze, and reconcile patient accounts, including copays, deductibles, and insurance balances Provide clear explanations of financial responsibility and generate accurate estimates when applicable Perform collection activities in accordance with RCA policies and regulatory guidelines Address patient inquiries, complaints, and disputes with professionalism and resolution-focused communication Identify discrepancies and coordinate resolution with internal teams (billing, coding, front office, etc.) Document all account activity thoroughly and maintain accurate, compliant records Escalate complex or unresolved issues to the PAS Lead as appropriate Meet or exceed assigned productivity and quality performance metrics (KPIs) Educate patients on billing processes, insurance coverage, and payment expectations Offer and explain payment arrangements and financial assistance programs (MAP Program, Hardship, etc.) Qualifications

Skills/Competencies: Knowledge of healthcare billing, insurance processes, and revenue cycle operations Strong communication and customer service skills with a patient-centered approach High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Proficiency with EMR and billing systems preferred Effective conflict resolution and critical thinking skills Strong organizational and time management abilities Commitment to confidentiality, compliance, and accuracy in financial documentation Educational Requirements: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred, but not required Experience Requirements: A minimum of 2 years of experience in accounts receivable, healthcare billing, or revenue cycle operations within a medical setting Physical Abilities: Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
