Job Description

A high-level progressive congressional campaign is seeking a disciplined, driven, and highly motivated Finance Director for a competitive open-seat primary. This race will require a rigorous yet creative grassroots fundraising operation capable of scaling quickly and meeting ambitious goals. The Finance Director will serve as a senior member of the campaign’s leadership team and will be responsible for building, managing, and executing a comprehensive fundraising program. This includes overseeing call time, cultivating donor relationships, managing finance staff and consultants, and developing innovative strategies to grow both grassroots and major donor revenue. Ideal candidates are highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. They bring strong strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to meet and exceed aggressive fundraising targets.

Job Responsibilities

  • Own the design and implementation of a comprehensive finance plan, working in close partnership with the campaign manager to manage cash flow and projections.
  • Manage the campaign’s finance program, including strategic planning, budgeting, hiring, and project management.
  • Work with the campaign’s compliance firm to monitor, accurately track, and report campaign finance contributions and expenditures.
  • Oversee in-state and national fundraising operations, including travel, donor targeting, and events.
  • Manage all finance consultants.
  • Ensure that the fundraising work embodies the values of the Democratic party and of a candidate and team who believe in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications (Required)

  • In a finance role in at least 1–2 cycles for a state legislature or local race, or have experience fundraising on at least one campaign, or bring equivalent experience from high-stakes roles in politics, advocacy, or organizing.
  • Experience hiring and managing a diverse team of fundraising, campaign, and/or political professionals to successfully meet ambitious finance goals.
  • Relentlessly goal-oriented – enjoys working toward and achieving ambitious goals.
  • Cultural competency – able to build relationships and collaborate with colleagues, voters, and volunteers across lines of identity difference.
  • Willing to take risks and try new approaches.
  • Remains calm in stressful situations – capable of working long hours during key moments, rolling up sleeves and getting work done.
  • Demonstrably excellent track record of crafting and executing ambitious campaign finance plans.
  • Strong understanding of campaign finance law.
  • Experience with call time software platforms such as Numero, Raisemore, or similar, ActBlue, and NGP.

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge and strategies to raise money in a highlighted competitive primary.
