Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Director of Finance located in Scottsdale, AZ. The Director of Finance will lead and oversee all financial operations and responsibilities; include working within the basic corporate business policies and plans, developing financial policies and directing their implementation, determining the financial requirements of corporate executives and overseeing the production of financial reports that provide executives and operating managers with feedback on the financial effects of their actions. Analysis of company business operations, future business plans and determine the financial effects of various business alternatives. Initiate and maintain relations with financial service institutions, including outside accounting firms and banks, as well as arrange business financing. This position reports to the CEO.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education (Finance/Accounting/Economics) and seven to ten years of related experience in a leadership role.
  • MBA or Certified Public Accountant
  • Knowledge in the Cement, Aggregate Mining and Coal Combustion Products preferred
  • Read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents
  • Respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and executive management; including Community committees and board
  • Excellent decision making, analytical, and problems solving abilities with attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, PPT) and other financial software applications
  • High level of integrity and dependability; Maintains the highest of ethical standards
  • Maintains a positive and respectful attitude
  • Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Enterprise Policies and Procedures
  • Acts as a role model within and outside the Agency
  • Communicates regularly with finance/accounting employees
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organizations fiscal function
  • Participate in the development of the organizations plans and programs
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs / strategies and regulatory interaction
  • Develop and advise on cost and reimbursement strategies
  • Develop, propose and implement plans to attain best corporate governance policies and procedures
  • Develop credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets and financial reports that will assist the president, CEO, board and other senior managers in meeting their responsibilities
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the agency
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization and with the board as an effective problem solver; be viewed as approachable and as a mentor to people in financial issues
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues affecting their budgets
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization; such as, evaluation of pension funds and investments
  • Develop and maintain relationships with financial institutions
  • Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism, which includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs of the agency
  • Participate in the negotiation of contracts
  • Continual improvement of the timeliness and accuracy of the organization’s cash flow and management of the billing process (A/R)
  • Evaluation of the finance division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group; as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) of individuals
  • Competence in billing, payroll, accounts payable, general ledger software, Access/Excel/PeopleSoft type spreadsheets and overall general knowledge of system databases and master files
  • Ensure compliance with all tax, licensing, labor, insurance, and safety requirements
  • Complete necessary training in order to maintain certifications for self and staff
  • Budgeting and overseeing financial audits
  • Direct and manage the finance/accounting team; fostering a culture of accountability, excellence and performance
  • Performs duties as workload necessitates and other related duties as required or as assigned
