Description
Discovery In Vitro Screening Team (DMPK) Chemistry lab work with the theory more focused on biology. In‑vitro work is performed in test tubes with a goal of producing data that reveal trends against biological samples. Research Assistants will work with biological samples (plasma, blood, urine, feces, etc.) from both animals and humans. The role cross‑trains on biology and chemistry: those trained in biology/cell culture begin there; those trained in chemistry/wet chemistry begin there. In chemistry: support the life team and process samples using basic wet chemistry techniques (pipetting, plate readers, liquid handers, centrifuges), run stability, protein‑binding, and enzyme inhibition assays, operate Mass Spec and LC‑MS, perform extractions, and manage sample runs. In biology: focus on mammalian cell culture, maintain cell lines, grow cells for assays, seed plates, harvest, run extractions, and perform studies from start to finish. The work mirrors animal studies, preparing doses, administering, sampling at time points, extracting samples for analysis—though all is done in test tubes. The position is very variable, running assays, developing protocols, and acting as the main contact with clients for research projects. The individual must be able to take a method and execute it, problem‑solve, and understand the big picture of the project and appropriate tools.
