Position Overview
We are seeking a Director Product Line Manager Optical to join our rapidly growing team. This is a unique opportunity to own the technical vision for our products, work with a world‑class multi‑disciplinary team, and make a tangible impact from the ground up. The successful candidate will work closely with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and internal cross‑functional development teams to meet product objectives and instill a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do
- Drive execution of the product development program across the development team for the optical hardware product for high‑speed optical networks.
- Support and partner with development team members to identify technical gaps and capture solutions for timely execution to meet committed production launch dates.
- Manage manufacturing partners to ensure completion of technical design activities prior to product launch, including reliability, design verification testing, compliance testing, and reporting.
- Drive and support cross‑functional teams—including photonics design, hardware design, packaging, manufacturing, quality engineering, product marketing, and supply chain—to ensure robust product development and transfer to production.
- Drive internal preparation to ensure material readiness to support ongoing customer program engagement.
- Support engineering and product teams in supplier technical discussions to ensure all necessary details (e.g., models, technical specifications) are available for successful design effort.
- Support engineering and operations teams to ensure all qualified suppliers meet necessary requirements before production release, including incoming component validation.
- Ensure the team prepares, presents, and documents technical reviews, reliability reports, and risk assessments for internal and customer‑facing engagements.
Key Qualifications
- M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Materials Science, or related field, or equivalent experience in photonics reliability engineering with direct exposure to optical systems, silicon photonics, laser technologies, and optical transceivers.
- Strong knowledge in photonics device physics, photonics packaging, and failure mechanisms.
- Demonstrated success supporting NPI programs and product qualification from concept through volume production.
- In‑depth knowledge of relevant standards (GR‑468, Telcordia, JEDEC, MIL‑STD) required for successful program release.
- Effective communicator with the ability to influence cross‑functional and supplier teams.
- Experience in a fast‑paced, high‑tech environment serving telecom/datacom markets.
Preferred Skills
- Project management experience in integrated photonics packaging and co‑design (optical + electrical) from design to production release.
- Hands‑on experience in design‑to‑manufacturability and cost optimization.
- Willingness and adaptability to unfamiliar areas to ensure program success; willingness to travel to suppliers and manufacturing partners during the design or transfer phase.
