Summer Learning/5th Quarter Learning Camp Director
In partnership with the Boston Public Schools, Summer Learning/5th Quarter Learning is a 5‑week Summer Learning Academy running from July 6 th to August 7 th, 2026. The program combats summer learning loss while providing camp fun through STEM, arts & crafts, sports, and weekly walking trips.
Children participate in Summer Learning from 9 am to 12:30 pm daily; the entire camp day runs from 8 am to 5 pm. The Summer Learning Camp Director is responsible for overseeing the program from 8 am to 5 pm. This is a seasonal, full‑time, 5‑week position.

Location: Parkway Bear Camp
Compensation: $24.00 – $30.00 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Keep camper safety a priority, emphasizing personal safety and emotional wellbeing.
- Maintain partnership with Trustees and support Trustee programs, youth outdoor learning and behavioral needs.
- Create an active, engaging environment and serve as a positive role model.
- Use positive reinforcement and appropriate discipline methods, ensuring staff do the same.
- Develop and implement recreational and educational programs that encourage group participation with appropriate choice.
- Assist in keeping daily attendance records and practice active listening to camper needs.
- Maintain a direct line of communication with supervisors, partners and counselors.
- Report all accidents or unusual incidents immediately to appropriate supervisors and create necessary documentation.
- Communicate program information, problems, and concerns as they arise.
- Plan and implement camp special events and family night activities.
- Coordinate camp activities and take ownership of all camp program aspects, including special events, openings, closings, and extended hours.
- Attend all staff meetings and training sessions, incorporating training materials into daily interactions.
- Maintain and care for all program areas and supplies; ensure campers treat equipment, supplies, and property with respect.
- Abide by YMCA/DPH camp policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- At least 21 years of age unless otherwise specified.
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college experience preferred.
- Enjoy working with children with strong ability to understand their needs.
- Commitment to working with participants from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of group processes; ability to work harmoniously with staff.
- Commitment to carrying out YMCA mission, camp philosophy, and goals.
- Effective communication skills.
- Current First Aid, Oxygen administration, and CPR certifications (or willingness to obtain).
