$160,000 to $180,000 + bonus

Position Overview

The Director of Regulatory is responsible for leading the development and execution of global regulatory strategies to ensure compliance with food safety and regulatory requirements across domestic and international markets. This role provides oversight of regulatory compliance, labeling, documentation, and customer regulatory support while serving as a key advisor to internal teams navigating an evolving regulatory landscape.

This position plays a critical role in supporting new product development, commercialization, and global market expansion, ensuring all products and ingredients meet applicable regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Strategy & Compliance

Develop and implement regulatory strategies to ensure compliance with U.S. and international regulations (FDA, USDA, FSMA, EFSA, etc.) Interpret and apply regulatory requirements related to food ingredients, additives, and functional products Monitor regulatory changes and communicate business impact to internal stakeholders Provide regulatory guidance throughout product development and commercialization processes

Documentation & Submissions

Oversee the preparation and maintenance of regulatory documentation, including ingredient statements, claims substantiation, technical data sheets, and compliance certifications Manage regulatory submissions such as GRAS notifications, food additive petitions, and international approvals Ensure accuracy and consistency of regulatory documentation across all products

Labeling & Customer Support

Provide expertise on labeling, claims, and compliance for both U.S. and international markets Support customer inquiries and regulatory questionnaires Partner with commercial teams to ensure compliant marketing and product claims Review technical and clinical data to support product claims and positioning

Cross-Functional Leadership

Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales to integrate regulatory requirements into business processes Serve as the internal subject matter expert on regulatory matters Lead regulatory risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies

Global Regulatory Oversight

Ensure compliance across key markets including North America, Europe, and other international regions Support international product registrations and market entry strategies Manage relationships with external regulatory agencies and consultants

Team Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop the regulatory team Establish and improve regulatory processes, systems, and training programs Drive a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Regulatory Affairs, Microbiology, or a related scientific field (Master’s preferred) 10+ years of regulatory experience within the food, ingredient, or nutraceutical industry Strong knowledge of U.S. regulatory frameworks (FDA, FSMA, DSHEA, CFR Title 21) and international regulations, particularly EU (EFSA) Experience with GRAS processes, food additive regulations, and regulatory submissions Proven ability to manage regulatory documentation and customer-facing regulatory support Demonstrated experience supporting product claims, labeling, and compliance strategies Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business solutions

Preferred Experience

Experience with functional ingredients, dietary supplements, or specialized food systems Background supporting global product launches and market expansion Familiarity with European regulatory frameworks, including Novel Foods and health claims
