Senior Director of Engineering (Enterprise & Data Platforms)

The MSRB is seeking a strategic and technical leader to serve as our Senior Director of Engineering. In this role, you will define and drive the organization’s technology and data strategy, ensuring our systems are scalable, secure, and aligned with our mission to protect and strengthen the municipal bond market. You will lead the evolution of our enterprise architecture, systems engineering, and data engineering functions.
Key Responsibilities: Enterprise Architecture : Own the overarching technology strategy and multi-year roadmap. Establish architectural principles and standards that guide decision-making, foster innovation, and ensure systems are resilient, secure, and compliant with regulatory requirements (including Regulation SCI). Technology & Data Engineering : Lead the strategy for data engineering, including the design of data pipelines, analytical platforms (data warehouses/lakehouses), and data services. Champion engineering excellence, modernize the technology landscape, and reduce technical debt to support reporting, analytics, and AI initiatives. Business Partnership:
Serve as a strategic partner to business leaders, translating complex market transparency and regulatory needs into scalable technical solutions. Clearly communicate the value of technology investments to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Team Leadership : Lead and mentor a team of Product Directors and engineering managers, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement. Provide strategic oversight for product teams, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives.
Qualifications: Work Authorization : All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship. Please note, the MSRB is unable to sponsor employment visas for this position. Education & Experience : Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience in software development, data engineering, or architecture, including significant experience designing complex, distributed systems. Technical Expertise : Deep expertise with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), microservices, APIs, and modern data architecture. Proven experience building data platforms for analytics and AI/ML use cases with a focus on governance and reliability. Leadership : Demonstrated success in leading architecture, platform, or data engineering teams, or serving as a principal technical leader influencing multiple teams. Communication : Exceptional ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences and build consensus across the organization. Preferred : Experience with regulated systems or in financial services. Familiarity with Regulation SCI and relevant architecture or cloud certifications is a plus.
Listed above is targeted salary range for a new hire into this role. Final compensation decisions will be based upon a candidate’s relevant skills and experience.
