The Director of Sales & Marketing (DOSM) is the commercial leader of Park James Hotel & Oak + Violet Restaurant, responsible for driving total property revenue, market positioning, and brand awareness in the competitive Silicon Valley luxury boutique market. This role oversees hotel rooms revenue, group and corporate business, catering and events, and restaurant activation strategy while developing innovative marketing initiatives that position Park James as the preferred gathering place for business leaders, venture capital, Stanford affiliates, and affluent leisure travelers. The DOSM is a hands-on seller, strategic thinker, community relationship builder and storyteller who partners closely with the General Manager, Revenue Strategy, and Restaurant leadership to maximize RevPAR, ADR, F&B revenue, and long-term brand equity. This role is not a remote role. You will need to be on property for your shifts. Key Objectives of the Role Drive profitable top-line revenue growth Increase ADR and RevPAR index penetration Position Park James as Menlo Park’s social and business hub Grow Oak + Violet local patronage and private dining Build strong Silicon Valley corporate and VC relationships Strengthen the property’s identity as a luxury lifestyle boutique hotel Primary Responsibilities Revenue Strategy & Commercial Leadership Develop and execute the annual Sales & Marketing Plan aligned with ownership goals Partner with the GM and revenue management to set pricing, segmentation, and displacement strategies Participate in weekly revenue strategy meetings (pace, pickup, compression, demand forecasting) Optimize business mix: Corporate negotiated, group, leisure, and local catering Manage market segmentation strategy to protect ADR integrity Drive RevPAR index growth against competitive set Corporate & Group Sales Prospect and secure high-value corporate accounts (venture capital, tech firms, Stanford affiliates, law firms, biotech) Build negotiated rate programs and preferred partnerships Develop weekday demand to offset seasonality Personally solicit top 50 target accounts Lead site tours and high-level client presentations Oversee group contracting, room block management, and group forecasting Cultivate repeat group business and long-term account loyalty Catering, Events & Social Market Grow private dining and event revenue for Oak + Violet Position the hotel as a premier venue for: Executive meetings Board retreats Speaker series Wine pairing dinners Social celebrations Partner with the Executive Chef and Restaurant leadership on curated event programming Develop strategic partnerships with event planners and local organizations Restaurant Marketing & Activation (Oak + Violet) Increase local capture and repeat neighborhood clientele Drive brunch, weekday lunch, and bar activations Collaborate on seasonal promotions, wine dinners, and culinary events Build local marketing calendar and community programming Strengthen restaurant reputation among Menlo Park and Palo Alto residents Marketing & Brand Positioning Work with management company and GM to optimize all marketing channels: Digital presence PR Social media Email marketing Community partnerships Oversee website optimization and booking conversion Coordinate influencer and media stays Work with PR team and tourism organizations Maintain brand voice consistent with a luxury independent boutique experience Community & Relationship Development Represent Park James in the local community and business networks Establish partnerships with: Venture capital firms Stanford University Local luxury retailers Real estate and development groups Position the hotel as a gathering place for thought leadership and networking events Leadership & Team Management Lead and mentor Sales & Catering team members Set individual revenue goals and accountability metrics Conduct performance evaluations and coaching Foster a culture of proactive selling and service excellence Collaborate closely with Front Office and F&B teams to ensure operational delivery Financial & Reporting Responsibilities Prepare annual commercial budget and marketing budget Forecast monthly and quarterly revenue Monitor pace reports and production reports Analyze STR reports and competitive set performance Track ROI on marketing initiatives and partnerships Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) RevPAR index growth ADR growth Group room nights production Corporate account acquisition and retention Catering and private dining revenue Oak + Violet covers and average check growth Local market penetration Direct booking conversion Qualifications 5+ years luxury or upper-upscale hotel sales leadership experience Boutique or lifestyle hotel experience strongly preferred Proven success selling in a corporate/technology market Experience leading both hotel and restaurant marketing initiatives Strong financial acumen and revenue management understanding Excellent networking and relationship-building skills Knowledge of Silicon Valley market preferred Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal DOSM is: A relationship builder who can open doors with executives and venture capital firms Entrepreneurial and creative Strong seller and closer Comfortable selling personally (not just managing) Equally strong in corporate sales and lifestyle marketing Data-driven but hospitality-centric A visible on-property leader Reporting Structure Reports To: General Manager Works Closely With: Revenue Management Executive Chef Restaurant General Manager Front Office Leadership Ownership/Management Team Why This Role Matters At Park James, the DOSM is not just a salesperson — they are the commercial architects of the hotel’s identity.
