About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 14 As an experienced Sr Director, Executive Communications & Speechwriter, this role will play an important part in S&P Global’s CEO strategic communications strategy, positioning, executive visibility, and voice. Working closely across the Office of the CEO and Communications Centers of Excellence, this highly strategic role serves as a trusted thought partner with responsibility for shaping, aligning, and advancing executive narrative across internal and external audiences. The role may also at times create communications for other senior executives. This individual contributor role is responsible for developing high-impact speeches, remarks, talking points, briefing materials, and related executive content while ensuring consistency with public relations and internal communications strategies, corporate strategy, regulatory considerations, and brand standards. This individual will report directly to the Chief Communications Officer. The Impact: This role is critical in shaping public perception of S&P Global’s senior leaders and advancing the Company’s strategic objectives by influencing key stakeholders through executive communications. It serves as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Chief Communications Officer, proactively identifying opportunities for executive visibility and thought leadership, and leveraging them to amplify core messaging. The Sr Director directly shapes how C‑suite leaders communicate vision, priorities, and corporate strategy by translating complex business and regulatory topics into clear, persuasive speeches, talking points, and briefing materials that reflect the company’s brand and governance standards. The role partners across communications, legal, compliance, investor relations, and various divisions and government affairs to ensure leadership messaging is accurate, compliant, and credible—strengthening influence with investors, customers, regulators, and internal stakeholders. It also leverages AI assistants and advanced workflow technologies to improve ideation, drafting speed, voice capture, consistency checks, and overall messaging efficiency. Responsibilities: Executive Speechwriting & Messaging Build comprehensive executive visibility plans and research, draft, edit, refine and finalize speeches, keynote remarks, talking points, op‑eds, presentations, social media posts, and other executive-level communication deliverables for the S&P Global CEO and, on fewer occasions, other senior leaders. Capture and emulate the authentic voice of the CEO and other C‑level leaders, tailoring tone and style for different audiences and engagement formats. Stay on the cutting edge of business‑relevant trends, research, and competitive analysis to inform content and approach. Translate complex strategic topics—including business strategy, regulatory requirements, and industry developments—into clear, compelling, unique narratives. AI & Advanced Technology Integration Use AI assistants and technology platforms to support drafting, ideation, version comparisons, consistency checks, messaging optimization, and content refinement while preserving executive voice and intent. Implement workflow tools for document versioning, executive feedback capture, and collaboration across stakeholders to ensure accuracy and message alignment. Stay current with emerging AI‑enabled communications technologies to recommend process improvements for executive content production. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Work closely with communications, legal, compliance, investor relations, government affairs, policy, and business units to ensure speech content is accurate, compelling, compliant, and aligned with corporate priorities and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with event teams and executive support staff to prepare briefing materials, audience insights, delivery strategy, and Q&A guidance when needed. Content Library & Thought Leadership Maintain an organized library of reusable narrative frameworks, anecdotes, data points, and key themes that reinforce executive priorities. Support thought leadership efforts by advising on trends, topics, language, and strategic framing. Monitor and report on competitive analysis. Quality Assurance & Governance Ensure deliverables meet the highest editorial and professional standards, including voice consistency, clarity, grammar, and corporate style guides. Manage multiple drafts and stakeholder feedback under tight deadlines with strong version control and quality assurance processes. Provide editorial reviews and counsel on external drafts from internal stakeholders. Compensation & Benefits Information S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $150,481 to $263,788. Final base salary will be based on the individual’s geographic location, experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. Basic Required Qualifications Minimum 15+ years of experience in executive speechwriting, executive communications, or strategic messaging in large, complex organizations. Proven experience writing for C‑level executives and, where applicable, prominent political figures, tailoring messaging to diverse global audiences. Demonstrated proficiency with AI‑assisted writing tools or comparable advanced editorial technologies. Ability to research, synthesize, and accurately represent complex topics—especially within regulated settings. Excellent judgment and ability to advance multiple deliverables under tight deadlines with evolving priorities. Prior experience in a regulated industry (financial services, healthcare, energy) aligning speech content closely with legal and compliance standards. Familiarity with enterprise content management systems, executive briefing tools, and digital collaboration platforms. Proven track record in crafting keynote speeches, executive interviews, or major public address content. Experience leading communication projects, preferably in a fast‑moving, matrixed organization, with global cross‑functional partnership. Experience developing executive‑level communications in a variety of formats (on‑camera, written interviews, podcasts, speeches). Preferred Qualifications Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with ability to convey complex concepts clearly and persuasively. Strength in capturing executive voice across formats and audiences. Strategic judgment to operate as a senior advisor in high‑visibility environments. Influence and collaboration skills with senior leaders across functions. Strong confidentiality, judgment, and ability to operate in regulated high‑stakes settings. Strategic thinker who sees work within overall departmental and business goals. Experience with narrative strategy for external stakeholder engagement in regulated or highly visible environments. Comfort with sensitivity to legal and compliance considerations. Acute awareness of complex problems, tailoring communication strategies accordingly. Experience with crisis communications and sensitive business issues preferred. Competence in partnering with senior executives, championing new ideas, and influencing outcomes.
