We're hiring a Level 3 UX Researcher to join our client’s Machine Display & Machine Experience workstream, focused on human-centered research that improves how operators interact with physical machines and displays. You'll work directly with a Lead Researcher onsite in Chillicothe and collaborate with a distributed team of 5 researchers across Peoria, Tucson, North Carolina, and Malaga, Spain. This is a new headcount addition with strong cross‑functional visibility across design, engineering, and product.
Job Title: UX Researcher – Machine Display & Operator Experience (Level 3)
Location: Chillicothe, IL (Hybrid, 2-3 days onsite)
Contract: 12 Months
What you’ll be doing:
- Plan and conduct user research and usability testing to inform machine display and operator experience design
- Translate research and testing insights into clear, actionable recommendations for product and design teams
- Integrate user research throughout the product development lifecycle
- Create and maintain shareable UX artifacts – user journeys, journey maps, storyboards, user flows, UX documentation, and UX strategy inputs
- Document UI, physical attributes, and usability principles for downstream partners
- Collaborate cross-functionally with designers, engineers, product owners, and downstream teams
- Support research across multiple machine groups and operator environments — including in-person field research
- Prioritize research backlog in alignment with the product roadmap
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in UX / User Research
- B.S. or higher in HCI, Human Factors, Psychology, UX/Interaction Design, or related field
- Strong knowledge of HCI and UX best practices
- Experience in integrating research into real‑world product design decisions
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Portfolio demonstrating research process and outcomes
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in automotive, aviation, or heavy machinery environments
- Familiarity with operator/driver interfaces – vehicle displays, operator controls, or safety systems
- Exposure to ergonomics, eye‑tracking, or cognitive load evaluation
- Experience in a corporate or B2B environment
- Project management experience
