Mechanical Designer

Mechanical Designer As a Mechanical Designer, you will gain comprehensive exposure to HVAC and plumbing system design, including performing engineering calculations, developing technical specifications, and applying building codes with advanced knowledge of compliance requirements. This role involves 3D Revit system modeling and production of coordinated ductwork and piping designs. You will manage small to mid‑sized projects from initial concept through final design with minimal oversight from a senior engineer.

Salary Range: $70,000 – $85,000 per year

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher education in Mechanical Engineering or related field

5+ years of job‑related experience

Intermediate knowledge of Autodesk MEP Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and Outlook

Ability to design plumbing systems for small to medium size projects under minimal guidance from a professional engineer from start to finish

Working knowledge of HVAC systems such as VAV, VRF, and rooftop package systems

Working knowledge of hydronic pipe sizing, pump selection, duct sizing, and fan selection

Working knowledge of hydronic heating and chilled‑water cooling system design

Working knowledge of digital temperature control systems

Proficiency in heating and cooling load software such as Trane Trace

Excellent knowledge of plumbing systems, including domestic hot & cold water, natural gas, and waste & vent systems

Knowledge of pipe sizing and layout of plumbing systems

Ability to collaborate efficiently with a team to produce high‑quality construction documents

Basic knowledge of Plumbing and Mechanical Building Codes

Strong quality control skills and ability to correct design issues

Direct client communication experience

Responsibilities

Consult with clients to determine functional requirements of new or renovated systems and projects; prepare design, specifications, estimated costs, and construction schedule information.

Collaborate with other disciplines to produce preliminary concepts and drawings, including electrical coordination lists for mechanical equipment.

Review shop drawings for mechanical equipment during construction administration.

Conduct necessary research for design of complete systems.

Conduct site surveys of existing HVAC and plumbing systems for input into drawings.

Conduct site inspections and prepare field reports to verify installations meet design documents.

Integrate engineering elements into designs for client review and approval.

Prepare scale drawings and contract documents for contractors.

Complete cost estimates.

Select equipment and prepare specifications.

Provide basic research to codes and jurisdictional requirements.

Perform engineering studies and prepare reports.

Execute all necessary engineering functions to produce quality construction documents.

Travel to sites and attend team meetings.
