Job Description


Position: Student Academic Success Director


Social‑emotional learning interventions and other social/behavioral skills are used to address school dropout and align with district goals, strategies, and action plans. The Director creates and implements programs that improve student retention, graduation rates, and overall academic achievement, serving as a bridge between academic affairs and student services to support students in navigating their educational journey. This position is a fully funded grant role (Title I – Improving Basic Programs).


Essential Functions



  • Leads initiatives to increase student retention, graduation rates, and academic success at all levels

  • Develops and oversees academic support and analyzes student data to identify the “at‑risk” or “vulnerable” populations while implementing strategies for student success

  • Uses data to track student progress while working closely with the Academic Recovery Specialist, Counselors, and Teachers

  • Monitors student progress in classes

  • Works closely with students to create successful pathways to assist with graduation

  • Conducts weekly check‑ins to ensure needs are met

  • Builds a strong connection between home and school

  • Active member of the Attendance Intervention Team process

    • Responsible for scheduling meetings, contacting families, and providing resources where needed

    • Works closely with school staff, students, and families to provide interventions to improve attendance

    • Jointly develops/creates attendance plans with students and families



  • Understands the ORC/OAC required by districts to report data in EMIS

  • Supports college, career, workforce, and military readiness to prepare students for different pathways for college and/or career success

  • Helps prepare students for post‑secondary education, entering the workforce, or joining the armed forces

  • Assists students with earning industry‑recognized credentials

  • Works with Ohio Means Jobs or other platforms

  • Retrieves relevant reports in the secure data center

  • Facilitates presentations on safety awareness, violence prevention, and social inclusion (Grades 9‑12)

  • Facilitates presentations on dating and sexual violence prevention (Grades 9‑12)

  • Oversees homelessness/unaccompanied youth and provides resources and support

  • Assists in obtaining and coordinating community resources to meet students’ needs

  • Maintains confidential files, records, and documents

  • PBIS planning, training, and implementation

  • Oversees the school’s implementation of Ohio’s Whole Child Framework initiative

  • Acts as the liaison between staff, students, and administration to create an integrated, supportive environment

  • Leads or actively participates in the threat assessment team (School Safety)

  • Active member of the student wellness & success team

  • Makes referrals and supports linkage to behavioral health services as appropriate

  • Provides individual, group, classroom‑based, and family interventions

  • Provides classroom‑based behavior intervention support and consultation with teachers

  • Assesses for safety and provides crisis intervention services

  • Performs other duties as assigned by administrators


Qualifications



  • Licensed Social Worker, State of Ohio

  • Appropriate State of Ohio Certifications/License

  • Master’s in Administration

  • Alternative Administrative Specialist License

  • Pupil Services License

  • Five to ten years of previous experience

  • PBIS Master Trainer

  • Certified Trauma Practitioner in Education

  • Organizational and problem‑solving skills
  • Specialized skill in evaluation procedures for student academic/behavioral problems

  • Basic skills in counseling and consultation

  • Computer/word processing skills


Job Requirements



  • At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
