Job Description
KOMU 8 News is looking for a Graphic Designer to join its award‑winning team, creating animations, digital and print elements, videos, and photography to meet the station’s commercial and promotional production needs. The role involves collaborating with student journalists on graphics, charts, diagrams, and motion graphics to enhance news story packages both on‑air and online, managing KOMU 8 branding and identity, and mentoring student journalists on identity best practices. Responsibilities also include designing, laying out, and preparing finished art for publications, exhibits, displays, instructional materials, and media presentations, consulting with clients, coordinating with printers and media producers, and supporting the sales department with digital sales programs, web ads, sales research, presentations, and sales contests.
Responsibilities
Manage and maintain KOMU 8 brand on‑air, online and on streaming platforms
Still photography of talent/students for promotions and the website
Create animations for news, production, promotions and special events
Manage, order and distribute station artwork, station assets, employee business cards, and signatures
Monitor station branding
Manage komu.com graphic look, news app, weather app & OTT properties
Talent headshots (Meet The Team), student headshots each semester
Franchise graphics (Mizzou Xtra, KOMU Cares, A Brighter Tomorrow, Target 8, First Alert Weather)
Shift
8:00 am-5:00 pm, M-F, some evenings and weekends
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate would have experience with digital display ads, animation, video editing, photography. Proficiency in the Adobe Suite of products, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator is a must. Experience with brand management and identity, digital advertising experience, and analytics reporting are an advantage.
