Tell Me More The City of Peoria is seeking to hire multiple team members for our Sports Field Grounds Crews within the Parks and Recreation Department. In this role, employees will perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks at Community Parks, Neighborhood Parks, and the Peoria Sports Complex—home to the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres Spring Training facilities. Responsibilities include supporting baseball field reconditioning, turf maintenance, and assisting with the upkeep of facilities and grounds during events and activities throughout the year. This work is carried out by supporting higher-level maintenance staff in preparing and maintaining baseball fields, grounds, and related facilities.
Essential functions
Prepare and maintain baseball fields, bullpens and related facilities utilizing a variety of hand and power tools including edgers and weed eaters.
Assist with turf maintenance including resodding, power washing and power brooming edges.
Assist with reconditioning of fields including mounds, home plates, base passes, infield edges, replacing bases and base anchors and hauling materials.
Perform painting of field and foul lines and logos.
Assist with the application of drying materials and tarp pulling on fields during inclement weather.
Provide general maintenance which includes raking leaves, cleaning walks and litter control around fields, buildings and grounds.
Maintain restrooms and replenish supplies as needed.
The ideal candidate
Interested in learning more about parks and sports field groundskeeping.
Availability to work a flexible part-time schedule, averaging 18–30 hours per week
Willingness to work varying schedules based on assignments, including evenings and weekends
A safety conscious, punctual and reliable team player with a strong work ethic.
Ability to perform essential job functions in high-traffic, public-use areas comfortably and effectively
