Cantonese & Mandarin Analytic Linguist – A position with a purpose!
Metlang is seeking exceptional bilingual professionals to enhance their analytical and translation skills.
The Cantonese & Mandarin Analytic Linguist monitors, transcribes, translates, interprets, and analyzes source material to assist law enforcement with investigations in areas such as narco‑trafficking, counterfeiting, terrorism, fraud and money laundering. The position is project‑based and on‑site.
Compensation: $40 per hour plus major medical insurance (pending eligibility), 401(k) retirement account, 1 hour of sick time for every 40 hours worked, up to 10 paid vacation days, and 11 paid federal holidays.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities
Monitor:
Listen to or read foreign‑language communications and type English summaries.
Transcribe:
Render spoken language into written form in the same language.
Translate:
Convert spoken or written content from one language to another.
Interpret:
Translate orally, consecutively or simultaneously, from source to target language.
Analyze:
Examine information methodically to explain and interpret it.
Requirements
Clear and effective written and spoken communication skills in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
Ability to summarize and translate audio and text, including slang and colloquialisms, in real‑time.
Prior professional or personal experience in interpreting and/or translating.
Ability to prioritize tasks, demonstrate attention to detail and organization skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media, and text‑message terminology in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
Typing speed exceeding 40 words per minute.
Ability to adapt under pressure and work well as part of a team.
Availability to work a rotating schedule and full‑time locally, with travel required.
Must pass language tests (writing, reading, listening, speaking) in English, Cantonese and Mandarin or provide prior results.
Will undergo a Government security background investigation and meet eligibility criteria.
Physical Demands Job requires frequent speaking, hearing, seeing, extended sitting, use of hands and fingers to type or operate phone keys, standing, walking, reaching with arms, climbing or balancing, and stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reasonable accommodation can be made for disabilities.
