TPC San Antonio is seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team. This is a key role within our Golf Course Maintenance Department, supporting daily operations on our high-profile, 36-hole property that includes the Oaks Course, host of the Valero Texas Open. The successful candidate will collaborate directly with the Director of Golf Course Maintenance Operations and will have a clear path for professional growth within the TPC Network.

Club Highlights

Maintenance Budget: $5 million

Total Annual Rounds: 80,000 (40,000 per course)

Total Staff: 42–46 full-time, 4–6 part-time

Typical Work Schedule:

Monday–Thursday: 5:00 AM–2:00 PM

Friday: 5:00 AM–12:00 PM

Every other or every third weekend: 5:00 AM–10:00 AM

Turf Types:

Base: Bermudagrass on all surfaces

Oaks Course: Overseeded with Ryegrass and Poa Trivialis

Future Projects:

2026–2027: Pro practice facility upgrades

2027–2028: Green resizing and potential resurfacing (Canyons Course)

Ongoing: Annual facility upgrades

Irrigation System: Toro Lynx (both courses)

Equipment: John Deere (4-year lease, currently 1 year in), specialty equipment purchased

Initial Priorities of Position

Learn facility-specific routines and course expectations

Support seasonal operations including PGA Tour Event (spring) and overseeding (fall)

Build rapport with maintenance staff and management

Embrace high standards in daily course presentation and cultural practices

Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude

Schedule, train, supervise, and motivate staff to maintain both golf courses

Coordinate daily operations and ensure coverage meets departmental needs

Assist with hiring, performance reviews, corrective actions, and terminations

Enforce safety standards and ensure regulatory compliance

Oversee cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas and equipment

Manage invoice logs, purchase orders, and budget tracking

Support all record-keeping: applications, weather logs, labor tracking, etc.

Participate in implementation of cultural practices, fertilizer, and pesticide applications

Communicate effectively with staff and other departments via 2-way radio

Wear appropriate PPE and lead by example on safety standards

Other tasks and projects as assigned by the Director of Golf Course Maintenance

Preferred Qualifications

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Turf Management or related field preferred

Certificate programs considered with relevant experience

1–3 years of progressive turf or golf course experience

Supervisory experience preferred

Knowledge of golf course operations, agronomics, and equipment use

Must be comfortable with warm-season turf and year-round play

Ability to perform physical tasks in outdoor conditions

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $60,000 - $65,000, DOE
