Position Summary The Director of Web Services has primary responsibility for the EDUCAUSE web ecosystem. The Director leads EDUCAUSE web strategy, recommending and championing best practices in design, strategy, accessibility, analytics, and governance. The Director leads a team that is responsible for EDUCAUSE web sites, EDUCAUSE SaaS tools used to serve member needs, and the data integrations required for all systems to interoperate efficiently and effectively. The Director is responsible for planning and management of a dedicated budget and leads the Web Services team. The Director also coordinates training for Web Services portfolio items as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervisory Responsibilities
This is a supervisory position with four direct reports.
Strategy and Governance
Builds organizational buy-in for a unified web presence for EDUCAUSE
Develops and leads web governance efforts in support of:
Developing objectives, strategies, budgets, and measures for the web initiatives of EDUCAUSE
Developing and implementing a strategic website roadmap based on website customer and staff needs using existing data, feedback, and new research; actively gathers feedback and analyzes data from website users and internal stakeholders
Developing a strategic plan for web and mobile initiatives; aligns with digital strategy; advocates for member-centered, context-aware, highly functional design on all platforms (web, mobile, etc.)
Designing and maintaining best‑practices-based information architecture
Developing a prioritization process for selecting and funding web investments
Maintaining a sustainable technical stack that meets the needs of the organization effectively
Identifying, resourcing, and maintaining compliance with relevant accessibility standards
Effective utilization of AI services to meet the needs of human and agentic site visitors
Owner of web analytics strategy, partnering with internal BI team when needed
Selects and implements technologies that support organizational goals.
Leads evolution of EDUCAUSE web properties, staying abreast of and making recommendations based on developing trends and technologies
Create and lead cross‑functional web governance team
Web Services Management
Business owner for web ecosystem vendors.
Collaborates with Vendor and Compliance Manager on assessing and reviewing vendor performance on an annual basis.
Champions best practices for contemporary usability and user experience for human and agentic site users.
Oversees the maintenance and improvement of the current website.
Leads efforts to develop new web features as required by the business.
Directs and prioritizes the work of internal and contracted web development resources.
Project Management
Lead web projects from requirements definition through deployment, identifying schedules, scopes, budget estimations, and implementation plans, including risk mitigation.
Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure that projects adhere to scope, schedule, and budget.
Analyze project status and, when necessary, revise the scope, schedule, or budget to ensure that project requirements can be met.
Establish and maintain relationships with relevant internal stakeholders, providing regular contact on project status and changes.
Website Services and Support
Works closely with Web Services and other technical teams to ensure integration with enterprise technology systems as required.
Leads efforts to provide timely, efficient customer support and issue resolution for web services.
Performance Management and Staff Supervision
Collaborates with CIO to identify adequate staffing levels within the department; leads the recruiting and selection process when vacancies occur.
Provides direct reports with professional development opportunities including training, coaching, work direction, motivation, feedback and recommendations for rewards and corrective action.
Leads and prioritizes work of Web Services team, including performance reviews.
Training and Education
Identifies skill gaps on team and works with team members to upskill.
Responsible for training Web Services team for current and emerging skill needs.
Financial Management
Owner and steward of dedicated Web Services budget.
Monitor budgeted program expenditures and ensure that programs operate within the approved budget.
Identify and evaluate the budgetary risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control the risks.
Act as a good steward of EDUCAUSE financial and other resources.
Work to identify, develop, and achieve annual revenue targets.
Association Service and Support
Represent EDUCAUSE in a professional manner at all times; engage with co‑workers in a civil, caring, respectful way; and advance the mission and vision of EDUCAUSE.
Participate in EDUCAUSE events and activities as needed.

Qualifications Education and Experience
BA or BS in information technology or related field or equivalent academic and work experience is required.
Minimum 10‑15 years experience with web technologies required.
Minimum 5 years leadership experience in web roles required.
Extensive experience building stakeholder alignment required.
Excellent communication and persuasion skills required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proven experience as web technology director or similar role.
Demonstrated technical know‑how in content management systems and processes and up‑to‑date knowledge of digital production trends and tools.
Experience developing and leading systems and processes to support content development by content owners, with thorough attention to customer service and exceeding the needs of stakeholders.
Excellent attention to detail and knowledge of web architecture and website design and development.
Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of web systems and their specifications.
Proficiency in user and marketing interface design, usability methodology, CMS, and browser capabilities.
Expertise in SEO best practices and Google Analytics management.
Advanced project/time management, leadership, and organizational skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and juggle multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and active listening skills and a demonstrated record of building relationships with diverse stakeholders and colleagues.
Experience in controlling information technology budget.

Travel for this position is less than 5%.
