Overview La Jolla, UC San Diego Health – Communications & Marketing Manager, Otolaryngology. Filing Deadline: Wed 4/29/2026. Location: 9500 Gilman Drive, San Diego, CA 92037, United States. This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Campus and remote. Responsibilities Independently oversee a comprehensive communications and marketing program for the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. Develop and execute organizational communication and branding strategies; design and implement information campaigns aligned with departmental priorities. Provide executive communications and limited administrative coordination support to the Department Chair, including preparation of executive-level materials. Collaborate with departmental leadership and Health Sciences and health system communications professionals to determine the best methodologies to reach key internal and external audiences about education and research initiatives. Minimum Qualifications Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, healthcare administration, or related field plus five (5) years of related experience/training. Knowledge of communications across strategic planning for various media venues and effective applications. Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with proven excellence in writing and editing, active listening, and political acumen. Technical proficiency in web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and related tools. Strong interviewing and storytelling skills; ability to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling narratives. Ability to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to target and broad audiences; experience creating high-quality content to raise visibility for leadership and initiatives. Ability to write copy and edit for accuracy and style for executive leadership and diverse internal audiences. Ability to develop and implement long- and short-term strategic communications plans and evaluate their effectiveness. Experience managing multiple projects in a dynamic environment; knowledge of website content management systems and social media platforms. Knowledge of location protocols and channels for internal and external communication; strong understanding of higher education and/or health sciences context. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence in communications practices. Familiarity with Adobe Cloud, MyEmma, and Canva; ability to maintain confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications Work experience in an academic higher education setting and/or medical school. Special Conditions Employment is subject to a criminal background check. Pay Transparency Annual Full Pay Range: $79,200 - $143,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $37.93 - $68.68. The University’s compensation is subject to experience, skills, and organizational needs. The posted range may be broader than what is paid due to internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements where applicable.
