Job Overview:
The Marketing Coordinator supports the execution of marketing and community engagement efforts for the Sports Commission, representing the organization at community events and other spaces (i.e. virtual meetings and groups). This role collaborates with the Marketing team implementing marketing tactics and is responsible for independently managing day‑to‑day marketing activities, coordinating projects, and ensuring consistent and high‑quality execution across community activations, events, and digital platforms.
This position requires a proactive, self‑starting approach, with the ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities while working within established strategies, brand standards, and team priorities. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with interacting with the public, partners and stakeholders and bring energy and enthusiasm for sports, community and events.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Community Engagement
Identify and coordinate opportunities for the Sports Commission to participate in community events, aligning with established priorities and goals
Independently manage logistics for community appearance, including scheduling materials and on‑site coordination
Coordinate and provide day‑to‑day directions to part‑time staff and volunteers during onsite event and activations
Represent the organization at community events with professional and brand consistency
Maintain an internal calendar of community appearances and activations
Oversee inventory and organization of promotional materials and signage
Event Marketing Activations
Execute event‑specific marketing plans in partnership with the Marketing Manager and Marketing Director
Capture and coordinate content (photo, video, interviews) at events and pre‑event opportunities
Support grassroots marketing efforts to drive event awareness and ticket sales
Independently manage assigned on‑site activations and marketing tactics
Provide hands‑on support for event execution (e.g., sponsor tours, fan engagement elements)
Social Media Execution
Support the Marketing Manager in maintaining a social media content calendar
Lead real‑time content capture and posting during events (hosted and owned events and local teams)
Manage community engagement, commenting, sharing and engaging with key accounts
Support Marketing Manager with content creation and curation on social media platforms
Provide weekly trends report to inform marketing team on upcoming social media content
Analyze content performance and, with the Marketing Manager, adjust as needed
Draft, schedule, and post content for review and approval
Digital Media Support
Assist Marketing Manager and Marketing Director with content updates on the Sports Commission website, including the blog and event calendar
Write and curate content for digital channels, including web and email
Coordinate with the Graphic Designer to maintain the image library, ensuring proper tagging and accessibility
Additional Responsibilities
Track and report on marketing activities, including community activations, events and digital performance
Provide administrative and operational support to the marketing department
Assist with updated marketing collateral and digital materials to ensure brand consistency
Participate in professional development activities and contribute to team initiative
Engage in Sports Commission and broader organizational activities
Job Specific Competencies
Experienced in the following areas (either through education, work experience or a combination of both) typically 2+ or more years
Supporting or executing events, activation or grassroots marketing efforts
Managing social media accounts for a brand, event, club or organization
Coordinating multiple projects with tight timeline and shifting priorities
Working in roles on‑site, responsible for making this happen
Understand platform difference (Instagram, TikTok, Xfacebook), timing engagement tactics and real time posting
Know how to capture compelling photos/videos at events and translate them into engaging content
Familiar with email marketing, website updates and how different channels work together
Comfortable with platforms and scheduling tools (i.e. SproutSocial, native platforms), email marketing tools, CMA platforms (MailChimp or Constant Contact) and basic content creation tools (Canva, Adobe Express)
Ability to write clear engagement captions and short form content
Understand the importance of voice, tone and visual consistency across all touchpoints
Ability to create and/or adapt Power Point presentation in accordance with brand guidelines
Experience working with a sports venue, team, event management, Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) or hotel is a plus
