Maine Family FCU is hiring an AVP of Consumer Lending at its Lewiston location.

The AVP of Consumer Lending provides operational leadership for the consumer lending department while overseeing loan production and quality assurance. Supervise all Consumer lending departmental staff and provides ongoing training and mentoring. Interview applicants and analyze loan requests for all consumer loan products as needed. Works closely with the credit unions key lending vendor/partners and helps cultivate those relationships. Works with the VP of lending to ensure consumer lending policies and procedures best serve the credit union and its members. Ensure compliance with state and federal lending laws. Monitor and assess economic conditions affecting the consumer loan department and recommend appropriate action.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day leadership, management and support of the consumer lending function.
  • Oversee the configuration and maintenance of the loan origination system, while continually seeking more efficient and effective processes and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory, state, federal and policy requirements. Assist in developing, managing and maintaining consumer loan policies and procedures.
  • Formulate and maintain a loan procedures manual for the consumer loan department that is up to date with all regulations and requirements. Ensure staff training and compliance.
  • Oversee the quality control process and ensure audits are performed timely and findings are communicated and addressed.
  • Provide updates, guidance and coaching to lending staff during regular meetings and at other organized training events.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the credit union’s lending vision and strategy, working in a team environment focused on member service and closing quality loans in a timely manner.
  • Assist in collecting of past due loans, repossessions and foreclosures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of general economic conditions or changing trends relating to consumer lending. Construct products, rates, and terms that reflect the marketplace.
  • Rates – perform rate surveys of local competitors and work with VP of Lending on consumer rate recommendations. Monitor and coordinate the discretionary loan interest rate changes (tied to Prime).
  • Maintain a sustainable loan pipeline that leads to measured results.
  • Develop, assess, and complete monthly loan reports. Develop procedures and reporting tools for effective information to flow through the department.
  • Review loan approvals and denials for soundness of conclusion.
  • Define appropriate limits of authority for consumer loan personnel and ensure adequate understanding of the credit union’s loan procedures and policies.
  • Interview loan applicants, resolve member complaints, and approve or deny loan applications.
  • Assist with all other projects, duties and administration, as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties of this job classification.

Supervisory Functions:

  • Effectively directs and supervises assigned employees, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with credit union policies and applicable laws.
  • Hires, develops, evaluates, disciplines, and when necessary, terminates employees.
  • Establishes an environment that promotes teamwork and eliminates barriers to effectively working within the Department and across the credit union organizational structure.
  • Regularly schedule and conduct Department meetings to keep employees current on credit union goals, promotions, products, services, and activities. Encourages participation and open communication.
