The Director of Project Engineering serves as the Senior Leader responsible for the technical execution, engineering planning, and integrated engineering performance across Defense Systems Development Programs, Engineering Projects, and Research, Development, and Engineering (RD&E). This role oversees project engineering teams supporting Electronic Warfare (EW), Radar, Space, and Communications programs, ensuring that engineering activities are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required level of technical rigor.

The Director of Project Engineering provides leadership across the full program lifecycle—capture, proposal development, design, integration, verification, and sustainment—while implementing standardized processes, managing engineering risks, and driving cross‑functional coordination between systems, hardware, software, digital, and program management teams. This role is essential in ensuring disciplined execution, predictable performance, and customer satisfaction across a complex, growing portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management: Lead and drive the execution of all development programs for Defense Systems engineering teams, providing direction, mentorship, and support to engineers.
  • Foster a collaborative and high‑performance team environment that encourages innovation and excellence.
  • Project Oversight: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of all Defense Systems projects, ensuring they meet technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and timelines.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Systems Engineering: Drive the development and integration of Defense Systems technology into EW, Radar and Communication based programs and projects for both Defense and Space environments, addressing all operational and technical challenges.
  • Ensure systems engineering principles and best practices are applied throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the strategic vision and roadmap for Defense Systems technical solutions and product development ensuring adherence to NPI revenue targets.
  • Identify emerging trends and opportunities in Defense and Space Electronics technology in EW, Radar and Communications.
  • Liaise with customers and stakeholders to understand their needs and gather feedback for continuous improvement of Defense Systems technical and manufacturing solutions.
  • Present technical concepts and project updates to executive management and customers.
  • Ensure all engineering activities align with regulatory standards, safety requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Manage risk assessments and define mitigation strategies for Defense Systems projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics.
  • 13 years’ experience in the Engineering or Project Engineering discipline.
  • 8 years’ leadership experience with oversight of multi‑discipline engineering development teams in a high‑tech manufacturing company.
  • 10 years’ experience in aerospace, defense electronics, mission systems, or related high‑reliability domains.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to contractual requirements.
  • Desired: Master’s Degree or 20 or more years’ experience in a technical specialty or Engineering Leadership role.
  • 13 or more years’ experience in program or project management.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, communicate complex technical concepts, and influence decision‑making at executive and customer levels.
  • Experience driving results in a matrix organization.
  • Well‑versed in RF system level requirements across multiple domains, including EW, COMMS, RADAR.
  • Experience in Radio Frequency/ Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Software‑based program execution.
  • Experience working in classified development environments or programs with complex security constraints.
  • Experience working directly with DoD, military, or prime contractor customers.
  • Foreign military and commercial experience is also a plus.
  • Experience with government programs, proposal development, secure environments, or technology road mapping.

Annual base salary range: $199,750–$249,900. Additional compensation may be available on a case‑by‑case basis.
