Director of Engineering

A mission-driven technology organization is seeking a hands-on Director of Engineering to lead platform scalability, engineering execution, and system reliability. This role oversees a complex ecosystem spanning SaaS applications, Android mobile, device management (MDM), GPS/location services, and AWS GovCloud infrastructure in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end engineering delivery across backend, mobile, and device-integrated systems
• Lead sprint planning, prioritization, and execution
• Oversee cloud infrastructure (AWS GovCloud), .NET/C# APIs, and NoSQL data platforms
• Provide hands-on technical leadership (architecture, code reviews, troubleshooting)
• Ensure mobile (Android) performance, reliability, and release management
• Manage MDM platforms, device lifecycle, and GPS/location accuracy
• Drive platform stability, uptime, and performance improvements
• Oversee security, compliance, and secure engineering practices
• Lead and mentor engineering teams; support hiring and development
• Partner cross-functionally to align engineering with business priorities

Required Qualifications

• 12+ years software engineering experience; 7+ years in leadership
• Strong hands-on experience with .NET/C#, AWS GovCloud, NoSQL, and Android development
• Experience with distributed SaaS platforms and system scaling
• Knowledge of Bluetooth protocols, MDM, and device-integrated systems
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in regulated or public-sector environments
• Familiarity with GPS/location systems and DocumentDB/MongoDB
• Background in security and compliance
