Job Overview Reporting to the Assistant Director of Required Education and Instructional Design, the Instructional Designer II plays a critical role in designing and developing, managing, and coordinating daily activities on designated learning projects for Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM). The purpose is to ensure that goals and objectives of projects are accomplished on time, utilizing sound Instructional Design principles and methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
Apply knowledge of adult learning principles to content design and development to create innovative solutions that meet organizational educational needs.
Establish working relationships with and consult with all stakeholders, including leadership, to identify and document needs for assigned Instructional Design projects.
Lead and execute project tasks related to training and development within established scope, timelines, and budget.
Design and develop instructor‑led hybrid and e‑learning materials.
Develop job aids, guides, and other learning materials.
Analyze learning needs and consult with subject matter experts to provide input for course design and content in both the face‑to‑face and e‑learning environments.
Execute instructional design methods and adult learning principles to ensure that course design and content meet learning goals.
Create outlines, prototypes, and storyboards that provide program structure.
Collaborate with management and subject matter experts to ensure that course materials are current and relevant to learning needs.
Upload designed and developed computer‑based instructional programs to the Learning Management System (LMS).
Track and analyze learning programs by examining course evaluations and making recommendations for changes and/or enhancements as appropriate.
Qualifications Education Requires a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in one of the following: Instruction Design, Education, or related field. An MA master's degree in a related field is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of instructional design, graphics, e‑learning development tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, Captivate), project management tools, and office software (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Demonstrated knowledge of designing competency‑based training.
Understanding of technical instructional design techniques and technology for instructor‑led and online course development.
Knowledge of organizational assessment, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Learning Management Systems.
Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment demanding high quality, creativity, and consistency.
Demonstrated expertise in instructional design techniques for instructor‑led, computer‑based, and individual on‑the‑job learning.
Work Experience Requires a minimum of 3+ years of experience in developing online and/or e‑learning training material, working on Instructional Design projects, creating and conducting presentations to business stakeholders and learners, and understanding business workflows related to the assigned project.
Compensation Salary Range: $31.53/hour – $52.06/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
