Salary: $90,109.79 - $105,199.30/Annual ($43.32 - $50.57/Hourly)

Summary of Position

Under the direction of the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, the Executive Communications and Public Relations Manager, Sr. leads executive communications initiatives, media relations, and public affairs communication for the city, ensuring clear, consistent, strategic messaging across internal and external channels, crisis communications, internal communications, and community engagement.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Organizational Communications and Leadership: Ensure alignment and consistency of communication, establish standards, lead development and execution of internal communication strategies, anticipate emerging needs, comply with city policies.
  • Media Relations: Develop and execute media relations strategies, oversee media engagement, develop media policies, coach city leaders, serve as city spokesperson, develop public affairs strategies, lead community engagement and stakeholder relations.
  • Public Affairs: Implement strategies to enhance reputation, manage community engagement, corporate communications, advocacy, stakeholder management, lead communications for elections, bond initiatives, prepare speeches and presentations, coordinate external events.
  • Crisis Communications: Develop and execute crisis communication strategies, provide real-time guidance during crises, coordinate with Public Safety, serve in Emergency Operations Center when activated.
  • Other Job Functions: Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Required Qualifications

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English or closely related field plus two (2) or more years of communications management experience, and five (5) or more years of executive communications, public relations, communications strategy, and implementation experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

Requires frequent listening, talking, and sitting; occasional standing/walking; rarely reaching or lifting up to ten (10) pounds. Close vision and color vision are required. Limited exposure to environmental conditions.
