Mechanical Project Designer 1
Location: Ontario, CA. Full time; may work remotely part of each week after initial fully in-person period.
Responsibilities Engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for vertical building industry. Train, mentor, and lead design efforts for low to moderate complexity HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection projects as Project Manager or lead engineer. Collaborate with senior staff for larger, high‑complexity projects. Use engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards. Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information. Build and maintain client relationships. Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives. Document design decisions and monitor progress. Analyze engineering problems and propose solutions. Provide in‑process design reviews for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Implement quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG and industry standards. Stay current with industry trends and tech. Contribute to R&D and innovation efforts. Prioritize safety and mitigate potential risks. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions. Identify project problems and seek guidance from the project manager. Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phases. Physical: sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift up to 25 lbs. Occasionally drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, grasp or pull. Limited exposure to outside weather and loud noises. Limited travel within CA; no more than 60 days/year, single trip not exceeding 5 days.
Qualifications Must have a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 3 years relevant experience in building design consulting, or an Associate’s degree in Building Information Modeling, Engineering, or related field with 7 years experience, or a certificate with 7 years experience. Required skills (3 years experience): design techniques, tools, and concepts for technical plans and specifications; principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection; standard engineering software and tools, including HVAC load calculation software and BIM; Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Outlook.
