Siemens NX Designer
Actalent, Fort Worth, TX, United States
Mechanical Designer / CAD Conversion Engineer
We are seeking a mid-level Mechanical Designer / CAD Conversion Engineer to support an engineering design team in transitioning legacy CAD models into Siemens NX format for maritime and heavy industrial projects. In this role, you ensure design continuity, data integrity, and cross-platform compatibility by converting and validating 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings from legacy systems such as CATIA V5 to Siemens NX. You collaborate closely with design engineers, contribute to CAD standards and interoperability, and help integrate converted models into PLM environments.
Responsibilities
Convert 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings from legacy CAD systems (such as CATIA V5) into Siemens NX using established best practices and validated workflows.
Validate geometry, features, and metadata after conversion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to design intent.
Trace and interpret existing CATIA models and accurately recreate or adapt them within Siemens NX.
Collaborate with design engineers to resolve discrepancies identified during conversion and optimize models for manufacturing, simulation, and downstream engineering use.
Maintain clear documentation of conversion procedures, issues encountered, and resolutions to support continuous improvement of CAD workflows.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in Siemens NX with 2–8 years of CAD modeling experience.
Since this role is supporting a maritime (Navy) based project, you must be a citizen to support this government based work.
Strong understanding of CAD data structures, feature-based modeling, and assembly management.
Experience performing CAD conversions, particularly converting drawings and models from CATIA to Siemens NX.
Ability to validate geometry, features, and metadata to ensure accurate and complete CAD models.
Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently as well as effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.
Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) in a professional engineering environment.
Work Environment This position is based in an office environment focused on engineering design and CAD development. You work primarily with Siemens NX and other CAD and PLM tools, including systems such as Teamcenter, in a collaborative setting with design and engineering professionals. The role involves regular interaction with cross-functional team members to review models, resolve technical issues, and support ongoing projects in maritime, shipbuilding, or heavy industrial applications.
