Overview
DIRECTOR OF MARINE OPERATIONS (BMSS- ): Bowhead seeks a Director of Marine Operations to be responsible for direct management of the technical and non‑technical staff for Marine Operations with an emphasis on small boat maintenance and operation. The qualified candidate will provide leadership to Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and support personnel. They will manage all operational aspects, including program execution, growth, and risks management.
Responsibilities
The Director of Marine Operations will have excellent industry/customer knowledge, a demonstrated record of accomplishment and growth initiatives, and proven success in proposing and winning opportunities.
They must be responsive, reliable, detail‑oriented, and possess a strong motivation to build a productive relationship with internal and external team members.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Develop, implement, and apply management controls to ensure tasks and deliverables comply with customer requirements.
- Validate technical and financial reports, analyze metrics, identify areas for improvement, and develop corrective action solutions that meet operational goals.
- Conduct program meetings, reviews, and coordinate briefings with customers and senior management.
- Ability to organize project and task workloads and select individuals most qualified for specific projects.
- Lead business development processes such as identification, qualification, capture, and proposal activities, including defining win strategies, identifying competitive discriminators, technical proposal writing, and basis of estimate activities.
- Oversee the budget of the assigned unit within a division.
Qualifications
- Minimum of ten (10) years of marine operations and maritime experience OR a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management, Marine Transportation or Engineering and the equivalent of five (5) years’ of relative experience.
- Army or Navy ship and small boat operations and maintenance experience preferred.
- Familiarity/Knowledge of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Standards, American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), Army watercraft systems (AWS) and AWS on‑condition cyclic maintenance (OCCM), US Navy Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) preferred.
- Ability to understand and respond to any concerns in a timely manner and be proactive, actively engaged in all aspects of operations.
- Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging the advanced Microsoft Office 365 ecosystem for data management, analytics, and decision support, including tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, SharePoint, and Teams to enable real‑time operational visibility, workflow automation, and data‑driven performance management.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time.
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically.
Security Clearance Requirements
Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. U.S. citizenship is required for Secret clearance at this location.
