Overview

The City of Costa Mesa, known as the City of the Arts, seeks candidates for a full-time position in the Public Works Department. There is currently one (1) full-time vacancy in the Public Works Department. The current vacancy may be filled at either the Senior Management Analyst or Management Analyst level.

The Position

Under general supervision, provides professional, technical, administrative, and analytical assistance in conducting a variety of comprehensive analyses and coordinating municipal policies, procedures, and services in various City departments.

Salary Ranges

  • Senior Management Analyst: $104,616 - $140,208 annually ($50.30 - $67.41 per hour)
  • Management Analyst: $93,588 - $125,412 annually ($44.99 - $60.29 per hour)

Class Characteristics

Senior Management Analyst — An advanced-journey level classification with independent judgment and greater difficulty, scope, and autonomy. Incumbents may supervise assigned staff and work under the Department Director. Work is reviewed for accuracy and adherence to standards.

Management Analyst — General administrative assignments with minimal supervision. Issues involving policy decisions and technical questions are referred to supervisory personnel. This position is distinguished from the Management Aide by experience and education requirements.

Qualifications

Senior Management Analyst

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, or a closely related field. A relevant graduate degree is desirable.
  • Five years of professional experience in a public agency performing analytical work (equivalent to five years full-time). A pertinent graduate degree may substitute for two years of experience.

Management Analyst

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, or a closely related field. Professional experience equivalent to two years in a public agency performing administrative work. A relevant graduate degree can substitute for one year of required experience.

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. May require a Class C California Driver's License. Revocation of license during employment may result in disciplinary action or reassignment.

Additional Requirements

Public Employee Disaster Service Worker: All City of Costa Mesa employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or disaster (Government Code Section 3100).
