Asst. Deputy Director - Operations (#011310) Operations, Columbia (RICHLAND)

Responsibilities

• Assist with the management for the secure and orderly operation of the state's 28 institutions housing over 23,000 inmates.
• Assist with the direction/management of a security workforce of more than 2,400 staff as it relates to correctional practices.
• Conduct routine inspections of the state's prisons regarding operations, sanitation, safety, etc.
• Respond to requests/concerns from legislators, local officials and citizens.
• Represent the agency as required.
• Coordinate inmate group activity, movement, security, transfers and mass releases.
• Respond to emergency situations and actively participate/assist with inmate escape and apprehension.
• Confer, personally, by phone, and through correspondence with inmates and families concerning assignments, custody, disciplinaries, etc.
• Responsible for daily office management as it relates to review of all correspondence/responses.
• Directly supervise 9 hearing officers responsible for administering the inmate disciplinary system.

Additional Responsibilities

• Participate in policy development/review/implementation.

Qualifications

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree and relevant program management experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of responsible administrative/management experience in a correctional environment.

• Associate degree and ten (10) years of responsible administrative/management experience in a correctional environment.

• A high school diploma and twelve (12) years of responsible administrative/management experience in a correctional environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience must include six (6) years in supervisory roles.

Additional Comments

Prefer two years of upper level management experience.
